Hmmmmm....try cleaning MAF.

Maybe also a crack on your intake (rubber intake).

... After that engine got worse to where it would not crank.

Starter wont turn the motor, or the motor doesn't fire when cranked?

... No cel and no elm327 working. ...

Most times indicates loss of power to the ECU, if true, not gona run. With the key to run, does it have battery ish voltage at the B+ term in the diagnostic box? If no, check for voltage at the single wire connector between the distributor and intake, yellow/red wire.

Probably irrelevant to a modern engine but before electronic engine management the first branches of the fault tree analysis were:

--backfire thru carb = ignition system problem

--backfire thru exhaust = carb problem

Tools it does have power at the +b terminal 12 volts. But no cel light and my cheapo elm 327 is now toast too.i wonder if it's possible the elm cooked the cel light, could be that the light is just burned out. It will run but as soon as the fast idle cuts out it goes to missing really bad and will stall out front the miss.

I did believe you are correct I think it's in the ignition to. Gong to go thru distributor and see if there is anything amiss there next

Just want to say thanks to all who have replied to the issue I'm having. It's a great forum and helps a no banana when it comes to electrical guy keep his rig going. Y'all are great. Thanks again.

Backfiring through the intake could also be a mechanical issue.

Do a compression test to see if you have a cylinder with no compression. Could be a bent valve. These don't have hydraulic lifters, so there is a direct mechanical connection in the valve train, with only tolerances, no push rods to fail or lifters to fail.

Finally have a obd2 reader. Pulled codes for random miss fire across all cylinders 1 thru 6 .I suspect it's the coil wire but until I can scrape up enough cabbage for a new set I will not know for sure. I got kids to feed before i can work on my rubber footed horse. Patience is what I'm practicing right now. Got a side job that will hopefully give me the funds to get a set on there and see if the problem goes away.

You are correct in that sir. It does run just very bad miss. The misfires may be causing the back fire thru exhaust and intake.plus a compression check on a motor with 408,000 miles on it, I may not like what I find lol

glad you were able to get it fixed
Me too, I got a 2000 awd rav4 bug looking thing i like it but it doesn't give smiles per mile like the lamb crusher. Still waiting on my dizzy cap and rotor to get here to complete the overhaul damn postal wait time sucks

i don't know where you order from but i live 35 northeast of atlanta,i order from norwalk toyota and get my stuff 2-3 days tops.
i can go 10 miles east or west to toyota dealerships and get the usual 5-7 days or somebody tries to sell me a car.............

Not me, closest is like 45 miles in Tennessee. Besides i hate car dealerships. Get my stuff from Toyota in Florida takes around same time to get here as if i ordered it from Atl. I'm a week away from everybody in terms of shipping stuff. On a positive note i gotta go and pickup my dizzy at the post office today.

give norwalk a try on your next order just to check time of delivery they do have the best pricing i have encountered for OEM parts
