I just got an 84 fj60. Iis a couple of rust spots but you cant beat an ome lifted cruiser with racks, onboard air, dual batteries, and 120 on the engine for $1600. I want to know the best mods you have done under $200. It can be a $20 mod, but I would like to know.
I would say George's LED dome light is a nice upgrade for about $30.
Replacing your brake lines from the axle to rotor is another, you get rid of the short rubber line along with the metal hard line. You end up with one longer rubber line that allows you take off your caliper without having to bleed your brakes afterwards. $20 to $40 each at Napa.
The wealth of information on this board is the smartest move any Cruiser owner can make.
This is not really a modification, but insurance. Keep a couple of qts. of oil in your truck, because if your L.C. is like all the ones I have owned and seen, you're rear engine main seal probably leaks.
Not a problem, and not worth replacing unless you are doing a clutch job, just know that your truck is thirsty, and check the oil often.
Good luck, and have fun. It is the best truck I have ever owned.
Pure mod (not upkeep like knuckle repair and tune up) for under $200? I managed to do a body lift and shackles for around that. Gave me room for 33X12.50s without springs.
Used parts. I bought my Con-Ferr rack for $50.
I like my Tuffy too.
Is there a threaded mount for these (in a FJ60) under the vinyl? If so,is it the same handle as the overhead ones?I'd like one on the driver and passenger side, but wasn't sure if I should start driling in there or not. If not, was there something solid to catch the screws? Thanks.

Not sure on the FJ60. Does the 60 have driver side a-pillar grab handle? If so, then I'd guess the holes are there on the passenger side hidden under the fabric for righthand drive models. You should be able to feel them.

Iwould have to say switching the rear view mirror to a lighted one.
Go to a junkyard and rip the mirror out of a newer car. Mount it, supply it with a power and ground, and there it is. Awesome lights for the front of your cab.
