‘01 Lexus with 321,000. Ome lift. Center of hub to fender is 20 5/8”. I bought this rig built with the lift on it etc.

Bought at 130,000 on it with both cv axles ripped.

I rebuilt those at 139,000 Toyota parts

I rebuilt them again at 176,000 Toyota parts

At 256,000 new front axles from Toyota

At 316,00 drivers side split I rebuilt it but was grinding every now and then on turn. I tried the cvj boot this time.

Today at 321,000 brand new drivers side axle from Ourisman Toyota. Spraying black grease from the outbound joint I guess. I have new flanges, new cone washers and nuts and washers all Toyota.

I literally drove to the alignment shop down the interstate back home and grease is everywhere. I don’t see a split or tear.

Bad axle OR???

To say I’m sick of these axles is an understatement. Our stock 2000 Land Cruiser has not had any axle issues and might be original axles. It has 305,000 on it.

Do I contact Ourisman Toyota and try to get a new axle?

Seriously considering selling it or solid axle swapping it because I’m so frustrated. Not to mention I’m on my 3rd steering rack.

Any advice? Or any help greatly appreciated.

Jason

What is the turning radius? I think the bolt on lower control arm that stops the spindle at a certain angle is either missing or retracted to the lowest setting. I do not recall my front wheels turning to the angle as in your vehicle.

This may also be the same reason why you are on your 3rd steering rack.

thanks for replying @nissanh. That’s a good point and worth checking. I know that the stop is there but might be on the lowest setting. I’ve never fooled with it and I’ve never had a cv axle fail this quickly. I also failed to mention it does have a diff drop. As far as the steering rack goes I’ve been told by the alignment shop that I use (that specializes in cruisers) that the steering rack is a weak point in its design. Over the past years worn out bushings to sloppy inner tre is what I’ve been told and they weren’t able to align it because of the slop. Also truck has the spc upper control arms. Hopefully I can get to the bottom of it.

I see the tyre is almost touching the sway bar link and I do not recall my LC is doing that.
There should be a stopper bolt one per lower control arm.

If it failed that quickly, especially the outer boot, it’s defective. I’ve had inner boots fail, but never an outer boot.

I think you are right @Bisho. All my problems have been the inner boot, and never this quickly. I’d say only 20-30 miles. I’m going to call Ourismam tomorrow and see what they say. Also thought about jacking up all 4 wheels and see what might be going on as it’s in drive of course very cautiously.
