The date is May 25th until May 28th.
This is an early season jaunt on the Rubicon trail from a "base camp setting". Most any rig or high clearance 2wd should be able to access the campground. (hint: That means you may be able to drive your stocker 80 but walk/ride along the short section of trail and learn what and how to build your rig for next time). There are no reservations at the campground so if you can show up early and establish camp/parking spots all the better. There are no services at the campground aside from an out house.
Besides your normal camping kit I suggest you bring;
water
firewood/fire permit
tp
Vehicle requirements for trail:
A vehicle that is "prepped to run the Rubicon Trail" You should have all the gear/tools/parts/spill kits that you would normally pack for a serious rock crawling trip. This might be a short section of the trail but there has been serious breakage in the past.
For those that have not run the Rubicon trail this will give you a taste of what it is about.

If the weather/snowpack cooperates we would typically do a loop from the camp spot out to Loon Lake and return to camp.

In years past there has been a "chili cook off" on Saturday Night. I have no inclination to organize any "formal judged sort of event" but I do like chili and the idea of a potluck.

Disclaimer: This is an "early season trip". In years past we have been blessed with sunny warm weather but we have also been cursed by rainy snowy weather so be prepared for whatever the Sierras can dish out.
In the past it was necessary to drive through water a couple feet deep to access the campground. The trail may or may not have snow on it. Last year this area was inaccessible at this time of the year unless you were on snowshoes (or inclined to winching and digging your 40" tired vehicle on its side through treeholes. I am not that hardcore so snow pack will have to be monitored. The way the weather has been so far its looking good to go.

Update!
Snow seems to be melting. I will be there in my 80 and tent trailer with 7 year old Dominik and my father in law. I am hoping to arrive on Thursday Night (24th) to stake out a camp spot, otherwise it will be early Friday. Anyone else joining us? I have updated the link to the camp spot.

I'd love to come along on this one, been wanting to check out the area around Rubicon and see if my truck and driving skills are ready. Unfortunately I'll be in Moab on the dates you mentioned (I know, big sacrifice!). Any chance you will do another trip later this summer?

Any one up for this?

I'm still a maybe. I would be a Fri night/Sun dealio. Been busy as hell, haven't yet broached the subject to the fambly.
