Weld on sliders.

I am about to make some sliders that i can just weld to the frame. I am SUA so they will probably get some use.

I just wanted to know if it would be ok to weld the sliders straight to the frame or do i need them welded to a plate first or do i need to make gussets?? Can i see some pics of what you guys have done and how they have held up?

I would think a plate would be a better idea, it would spread that load out along the frame rail and give you way more weld too. If youre gonna make them go straight to the frame its not even really gonna take any more time to weld the support to a flat plate and then weld the plate up. Oh, and if they look good ill trade some of my accumulated parts for some. Good luck bro.

as far as welding them to the frame, i would definitly use a plate, you'll get more holding surface.

you gussets should go from your plates to outriggers..
your frame is about 6" tall top to bottom, so you have plenty of room for mounting.

Ok thats what i had planned on doing but i was just checking. As for the welds to the frame, i think i read that you should only weld the vertical sides and not the top and bottom? or is it the other way around?

I'd get a square plate and rotate it so it looks like a diamond...weld that to the frame and then your sliders to that....clean up the frame really good so you get good penetration and you'll be set...
