alright so just got a v8 vortec installed and so i decide to test it out of course in 4 wheel drive... However when i make turns alot of time it almost sounds like its rubbing but i knew it wasn't that cause it doesn't do that when the hubs are locked so...i asked my dad and he said that its the outside wheel trying to slow down to get the same speed as the inside wheel and so its skipping. But i don't remember it doing this before the v8 swap so i don't know if it had anything to do with that but i was just curious if anyone else has this same kind of sound as well... thanks!

So does it make this noise with the hubs locked or unlocked? I can't tell from your post. If you had a locker installed in the front the steering would get hard to turn when it is locked in That would be an indicator that the front has a locker, and then your dad's theory might hold some water, but I doubt the tires will chirp on the front axle going around a corner. The inside one would chirp.

Check the front driveshaft for clearance.

hey thanks for the quick response and yes it happens when the hubs are locked and i think thats what my dad meant was the inside tire i just said it wrong and i'm unaware of having a locker being installed during the engine swap i'll ask but im pretty sure that there wasn't one...so this isn't a common sound from having the hubs locked

on what type of surface are you driving? When you are in 4wd the front wheels turn at the same speed as the rear tires. When turning corners, however, the rear tires track inside the front and therefore they go different distances. If the surface is solid and dry, such as asphalt or concrete, the tires will make a skipping sound. Actually you should not be driving in 4wd on surfaces with good traction. It is bad for your drive train.
