I drove to a fairgrounds on Sunday and parked my LJ77 in a field.

No trees, in the sun, on a very hot day.

On leaving the park, the inside temp was over 100.

Started up, turned on a/c and drove away, heading home.

I needed to turn right at the exit and hit the turn signal stalk and no turn signals. Sometimes a light would come on, sometimes nothing.

No emergency blinkers either.

After the A/C (thanks Joe Katana) cooled the car interior down the turn signals started working again.

What would be affected by high interior temperatures to cause the malfunction of the turn signals?

Thanks

That was a guess of mine but never had something like that happen before.

We've all had hot cars, sitting in the sun.

This was a first for me.

I thinkyout flasher unit is semi-mechanical...electro-mechanical is probably more correct.
A strip of metal in there is heated by electricity which causes it to expand. The expansion causes electrical contact to be made (or broken...I can't recall) and that action stops the heating. The strip briefly cools, goes back to original shape then heats and flexes again.
Buy a new flasher unit, maybe a solid state unit that can handle LED bulbs.

The turn signals and emergency flashers no longer work.

91 LJ 77, where is the relay or flasher? I'm assuming it (they) are toast.

Thanks

For my RHD 74 it can be seen after drivers ac duct is taken off. Above right side of trans tunnel

That helps a lot. I was able to see the relays.

I'll be dropping the duct work and hopefully can figure out which relay needs changing.

Thank you.

Mine was furthest towards the engine.
Not in the tray or holder with the others.

If you replace with 21st century solid state version you can run LED bulbs with no issues.
This model comes with wire leads that you jack in one at a time instead of the oem relay with its prongs.
flasher

Thanks
