While tinkering today I noticed the brake line junction line coming directly from the master cylinder was weeping. Not having a flaring tool or flare nut wrenches (or experience working on brake lines), is this an easy fix or should I just go to a professional? Thanks for any advice.

You can either use "brake fluid stop leak" or replace the entire line. Just get a Jap metric line from Vato Zone and replace it then bleed the brakes.

If you can get a standard length that's close you won't have to cut and flare. If you have to cut it, bring it to Tom's and Ryan or I will bring a flaring tool.

Dave, you've already had great luck with having a "pro" fix your truck. ;)

I'd say go for a DIY repair.

I have a flare tool that you can borrow, but all you need is a 10/12 combo and Snap-On makes a great one.

If you go to Autozone you'll have to get an universal line and with metric ends. Coil it up a bit if too long. If it were my truck, I'd get the stainless lines from Classic Tube. SWEET. Steve M. just got a set for his truck.

It's only your life. Should be easy sell for the wife, it's all about safety. You need the wrench too because you can't safely install the lines with a super good wrench.

Bob and John:

Thanks for all the info.

The line is actually quite long and coiled a few times, so would it be acceptable to simply cut and flare the existing line? In other words, do I need to buy more line?

Get new line Dave

Brake lines are cheap (~$5) so buy new. Just make sure you get Jap metric, not British.

When you bleed the master after installing the line, I would recommend that you not push the pedal beyond the normal range of movement as you can damage the seals. On a new master, this is not an issue, but on an older one, rust can form and tear the seals.

Use a power bleeder. Mo bettah.

I've got a motiveair produces brake bleader it worked prity good on mine. If you would live to use it let me know I'll bring it to toms this weekend.

I would try the simple approach first, get a set of metric flare wrenches from Sears and try tightening it. Could be that's all it needs. Buy tools as you need them, you'll have a full complement before you know it.
