So as a surprise, I'm trying to figure out a good place to take the wife for a long weekend this Fall. As far as possibilities in WA, I'm thinking either Sun Mountain Lodge or Mountain Home Lodge, both of which are in central WA. I'm thinking a secluded mountain getaway type deal, or a nice B&B somewhere.

So, like the subject says, any ideas for a spot in eastern WA or Idaho to check out?

Eastern Washington Mental Hospital? Just kidding buddy! What activities are you two wanting to do? How far are you willing to drive?

Sun Mountain would be a 4-hr drive according to Google Maps, so I'd say four would be my absolute max. I think at most we'd just want to maybe go hiking and do a little sightseeing, 4wheeling (ATV type) or a couple things like that. She's burnt out on going to Leavenworth, so I'm trying to find something new for us.

The monster going to be with you or just you two?

I'm hoping my folks will take kiddo for the weekend so it can just be the two of us.

Talus Rock of Sandpoint, ID
We stayed here for our anniversary. The place is amazing and the owners are pretty cool! They are pretty flexible with the rates, just let them know your budget and more than likely they will try and work with you. It's in Sandpoint so there are plenty of options for outdoors stuff. Go the the Hydra Restaurant and get the prime rib! Bonkers!! Mick Duffs Brewery is a cool gastro pub (Lake Paddler Ale is wicked good) and they make it all right in front of you. Also thru make their own root beer for the kiddos etc. if you travel north to Bonners Ferry, actually about 1600 feet from Canada there is a cool trail head that has a little water fall and wildlife.

Now that sounds pretty cool. That trail in Bonners Ferry; is it a hiking trail or a wheeling trail?

It's a single track walking trail that goes to the water fall. We didn't venture much past that on the dirt road but there might be some thing to wheel around in. There are some nice camping areas too!

I checked out Talus Rock, and it looks nice but I'm not sure the wife would go quite for that atmosphere. I did happen to come across a place in Newport called The Inn at the Lake, that looks pretty nice (Newport, Washington Lodging at Inn at the Lake on Diamond Lake in Eastern Washington State). Looks like something both her and I could take a few nights to relax in, especially in mid spring or fall when we could relax in front of a fireplace. Anyone stayed here before? Little over an hour's drive north for us, so easily do-able as far as distance goes.

Diamond lake is nice. Spent some time around there. We looked at getting a place at diamond lake when we thought we were going to have to move there.

Looks pretty sweet. Maybe by late summer or early fall kiddo will be old enough to have her grandparents take her for a weekend while the wife and me head up to this place. I've got to figure out a way to keep it secret from her though when I make the reservation

We are going on a mountain bike "trip" up on Mount Spokane, two nice lodges up there!

I dunno what the other is, Shawna was looking it up. 15 year anniversary!

Nice. Congrats bro. Looks like a pretty cool little spot to stay. You taking all your gear on the bikes?

Hearthstone lodge in Kamiah is very nice and the bakery is the best food I have ever eaten....

We drove up to Kalispell to look at a car and they had a few places on the drive up. Lakeside looked good and some place just south of Kalispell.
