Weather stripping on hood

I installed the toyota bug shield on the hood of my cruiser this weekend. In the installation instructions it showed that I should have a piece of weather stripping mounted to the holes that the bug guard is now mounted to. The weather stripping was not there. What is the down side of not having that piece of weather stripping installed.

If I am reading this right, you use the weather stripping that was already on the hood, there is not a second piece. Did you not have the weather stripping originally? I removed my bug guard and reattached the weather stripping.

Correct there wasnt any weather stripping originally. I assume the PO removed it?

Don't know why they would have removed it unless it was dry rotted, or something.
