Hi All,
I wanted to take this opportunity to introduce myself to the community and give a little background on my LC history and my new 100.
A few months ago I started scouring the internet and local dealerships looking for a potential candidate.
I really wanted a white 06' or newer model with less than 75k miles, but was willing to settle for an 03'-06' if it had a decent history and less than 100k miles. I also didn't want to have to travel too far out of the SW to get it. (Tall order right)
I thought it would take a long time to find what I wanted, but thankfully it didn't!
After just a few months of looking, I came across a dealership in Kansas that had posted a white 03' with 46,843K but no pictures. I was excited, but cautious. I figured they made a mistake on either the year or the mileage or the truck had some sort of damage, so I contacted the dealership to verify and ask for pictures. Amazingly, everything checked out and the car fax showed a clean history. So, the wife and I flew to Denver, rented a car, and drove to Kansas to see it in person.
The truck was super clean, and the interior was like new! The only sign of wear and tear I could find was a few paint chips on the hood from normal highway driving and a slightly loose exterior door trim piece. No rust and no sign of any kind of body work or frame work ever being done. It was also loaded with features! The previous owners got every upgrade offered at the time: nav, side airbags, spray on under carriage protection, towing package, 18" wheels, side mirrors with built in turn signals, wheel locks, and spare tire lock. They even left the original sales sticker showing all the upgrades purchased and a 03' LC brochure in the glove box with every other piece of paper they ever had on the vehicle.
The owner of the dealership told us that he knew the couple that traded in this LC. According to him the PO bought the LC brand new from the Toyota Dealer in Amarillo, Texas for their vacation home in Kansas. They were older, and since their main home was on the east cost, and because they had several other cars, the LC sat in the garage most of the time.
Long story short, we bought the truck and drove it almost 900 miles home to Southern New Mexico.
With the help of our five year old, we named our new Land Cruiser Hurly. (We've always named our vehicles. It's kind of a family tradition.)
It will probably be a little while before I'll have the extra time or money to do any major mods, but I'm looking forward to baselining my new 03' soon; changing all fluids, lubing, etc...
It took me two years to tint the windows, pull the running boards and buy A/T tires for my last LC. I'll probably start with those same basics with Hurly and then move on to sliders, lift, bumpers, etc... as time/money permits.
Here's a few pictures of Hurly taken at the dealership:
