Water temp gauge not moving

Hey all,
I just noticed yesterday that my h2o temp gauge is hardly functioning. I was driving on the freeway and noticed that it was all the way in the cold position. When I got off the freeway and was sitting at a light it went up just a very little bit. Now it wont budge. It was working fine a few days ago, it would warm up then you could see the temp cool down just a bit when the thermostat opened. Now it is stuck on cold. I have searched other posts but they all seem to point to high temps or multiple gauges acting funny at the same time. Any ideas?
Thanks,
Paul

2F or 3FE? I ask because the sensors are in vert different spots. The 2F sensor is on the driver's side next to the valve cover behind the carb. The 3FE is situated logically up front. I had a seemingly non-responsive temp guage on my 2F until I sprayed the connection, jostled it, and then reestablished a more solid connection.

get a mech quage, i drove a 60 from CA to VA a few yrs ago with a screwy sending unit, thought i was hot for 3000 miles. Replaced the whole cooling system between the oceans, it was only the sending unit

3FE. I will look for the sending unit and give it a once over.
