I am doing the timing belt change on my 98 4runner. got it all apart... FSM calls for silc. inbetween water pump, but the new water pump I got from cdan has a metal/rubber gasket that the old one definatly did not have on there.... I think I read some place that toyota changed this????? I can not find where.... would you still put anything on it or should I put in on dry.... looking at the gasket I can not believe you do not put it on dry????

help please

The Techs here at the shop use the gasket supplied with the water pump. The FIPG makes for a mess for the next time you need to go into it.

Jacque

so they dont use that gasket and the FIGP right???? thanks!!!!! can you also ask them one more question for me???? I am just putting on the new timing belt, got the tensioner pushed in and the pin in it.... the timing belt is still really tight and very difficult to get on???? is this common?? do I just force it on or am I doing somthing wrong...

thanks!!!
