Another water related problem. Under hard acceleration and braking, I notice a sloshing noise around what I thought was the left rear door. I pulled the door panel off and it's dry as a bone. The water sounds like it's traveling a great distance...could it be trapped under the floor? I want to get under there with a drill to start testing things out, but I figured I'd run it by you guys first.

Rocker panel.

sounds about right. assuming it is sloshing around in the rocker panel, how do i get it out? and what caused it? is there a drain clogged somewhere?

Yes. Run a search for using keywords "rocker panel plugs". There are some pics. floating around out there. The plugs are well disguised.

"sun roof drain(s)" wil also get you some good info

notice he said left REAR door. So i assume it's coming from behind the driver. I would check below the jack mounted in the rear. I have seen some of the sliding glass mounting bolts or plastic clip thingys leak water. Below the jack is a pretty large area for water to collect.

That's too far back, you would not hear what he describes. Trust me (fellow rocker slosher here....:D )

Dan, what if it were to leak into the space in front of the wheel well, but still in the back panel? The sliding window is over that, with the plastic clip thingys that leak. That area would be just behind the door.

That's the rocker. It goes clear to the leading edge of the rear wheelhouse. Water that is behind the rear wheel cannot make it's way forward.

Gotcha. I am learning something new every day!

Pulled the rocker panel drain plugs...worked like a charm. A small river fell out of my truck. I'm going to leave them off for a while to let everything dry out. I checked the sunroof and the front drains look clear. I couldn't get a look at the rear ones. Should I just leave the drain plugs out or try to alleviate the problem? Is it going to be a problem with rust if I let it drain through the rocker panels?

joe, if i were you i would pop the panel off the rear rocker panel (it's just a matter of pulling the snap-clip thingy's. Have someone with a water hose outside spray water down on the rear sliding window. Look to see where it's leaking and seal it with silicon. Then snap the panel back on.

Joe,

There are small slits in the body seam under the truck toward the front wheel wells. Pictures are somewhere on this site; posted by Newps if I remember correctly. Use a wire tie to unclog and you'll be good to go. These tiny slits are designed to drain the rockers and you should put the plugs back in.

Newps posted pictures of the slits in this thread.

Do an advanced search in the 80 section with keywords "water" and "slit"
You will get all the information you need.
