Brownbear,
What do you recommend to use as a total solution rust preventor for the bottom of these vehicles? I have a existing tary gooey substance that seems to have prevented past corrosion but some areas such as the inside of the frame rail were never covered. I was told by a autobody shop that linsead oil works great but must be applied once a year. Any better ideas?

Like cruiser_guys says Krown. Many on here recommend it. That is what I am going to try.

Besides Krown, I like LPS 3. Buy it in the gallon size and make up a sprayer on hose, so it can be fed into the frame rails and then use a solvent sprayer to get it all the underneath coated.

Then spray it every year prior to the wet season.

The problem with removing the drain plugs and leaving them out, is that the quarter panels will quickly fill with dust/sand etc... I pulled my drain plugs after washing the car one time and no water came out even though it had about 1-2 gallons inside (I was looking from the inside, with the interior panel removed) I put my hand inside and found about a 6 inches worth of thick black mud had filled the entire bottom of the panel and water couldn't drain out.

mine was full of sand, so were the rockers. a spot on the rockers rusted from the inside out because of this sand. A car spray wash place works good for blowing out the rockers, or if you have access to a pressure washer.

YOu all have metioned this Krown oil. Is it waxy as well. The po of my 60 looks like he sprayed something all over the under carage and around the front head lightes. It's very waxy. What do you think it is? It seems to be working very well.

You might look into some Land Rover forums for that answer. Landy owners regularly spray thier chasis with various waxy oil products to help ward off rust. Waxoyl (waxoyl.com) is one such product.

The PO removed the market lights and didnt put them on right. Rained.. and water came in that whole. I was hearing water swooshing sound and thought it was the gas. I pulled those lttle plugs and about 2.5 gallons of water came gushing out. I have left them out to date and resealed the holes. No issue but, I am putting them back before a muddy wheeling trip.

After seeing how my rockers rusted out in areas I recommend for everyone no matter where you live to pull up the sill plate in the door ways and remove the plastic white nuts and use a spray oil in there with a straw, coating the rocker everywhere you can.

Just do it!

x2 on the tail lights.

I recently discovered one of my rear quarters full of water. The was no rust yet, but it's only a matter of time. Water stains indicated that water was coming in around the rear marker lights, LandCruiser emblems, and tail lights. The lights were really bad. They don't really seal at all.

Rather than just leaving the plugs out I sealed everything with silicone, including the rear vents. That was only a few weeks ago, but I haven't had any problems yet.

Well the rears of mine were in good shape minus the bottom being rusted out and water and mud coming up through it. I solved it with just good old "Good Stuff"

Good stuff is foam it will hold water and make it rust faster. Check into it, it is not the way to fix things.
