I'm not going to pay the dealer $6k to replace it.

Any suggestions on where I can obtain a used one? Maybe someone here can rebuild mine. One person has already thrown their hat in to help me with the labor (I won't say no to more help) but I need the hardware.

2007 FJ Cruiser (early model, picked up August 2006)
Automatic Transmission
Need to figure out if I have the A750E or A750F... I'll post up this evening which one it is.

It's supposedly the V8 tranny out of the 2006 4Runner, you think I could use the guts out of one of those?

Attention FJC AT owners there is a breather on the top of the tranny that you will want to extend UP. The 27.5" water fording limitiation is because of this breather. The ARB snorkel for the FJC is a waste of $$ if you don't address this.

Not if you own an M/T, I have drained a few with water in them, all you do is add new oil and drive off. Also were you stuck in deep water for a while, or were you just driving through?

Just drove through.

Wow, sorry to hear, hope ya get it figured out. I broke my rear diff. over X-Mass, toyota replaced it but only this one time. They said if it happened again since I had larger tires and a lift that I would have to incur the cost. My tires are 285/70/17, not much bigger than stock. I do have to say that the diff are quite wimpy in size, I guess I am use to my FJ 62 diff. Hope it all works out for ya!!!!!

Sorry to hear about this. You must be the rig 007FJ was telling us about on the blue forum. That really sucks. You should be able to find a used AT from a totalled rig. I'll ask Rick if he has any idea as to what happened to his rig. Let me know if I can do anything for you from down here. Definitely raising my AT bathers today.

Again Sorry
Bernd

Twhie I do plnalling to extend ALL braeaters in the near future, i disagree that the snorkel is a wasted of money if youdon't relocate the breathersl. True, uou may not want to sit still in deep water, but the fording depth is the same as is listed ih the manuel. I am running my sorkel primarily as as a "even colder air intake, it protrcts my open filiment filter from dust....especially when in a caravan. and It looks bas-ass. So, I don't thinkn it is a waste fo money. besides with enought money your can correct any problem, or simply fabricayte custom pieces

Maybe two drinks!:D
Seriously, if you think you NEED a snorkel to cross water.............
This creek is about 4 1/2 feet deep in the middle. Cross facing slightly down stream and keep your speed steady but slowish. And don't touch the clutch.
I've found that snorkels are bolt-ons that are installed mainly for looks. Unless on a military diesel that's capable of using them.

Your kidding right? This pic doesn't show a water crossing, this is basically a puddle compared to what people with snorkels cross. Your engine is not even submurged, of course you don't need a snorkel for that. An 4x4 could cross that, possibly even a 2 wheel drive truck. The fact is if you want to cross water that will reach over your hood you need a snorkel, period.

Can't you read?
I said 4 1/2 feet.
Any deeper and I would take off the fan belt before crossing. And yes, I've had water over the hood and the stock intake did not drown. Its seems to hide in that little pocket up near the hood.
Any deeper than that and we find another crossing, because the current pushes you around.
The fact is, most snorkets are for looks. Unless you have a diesel cruiser. Gas motors drown to easy.

Not true, if the gas motor has a sealed dizzy, with grease on the plugs, and good plug wires, it will have no problem crossing water, not as good as a diesel, but it'll get the job done.

That pic is of a proper water crossing, not the deepest water ever crossed by any cruiser.
It was taken 1500km's from my house. I drove my 40 there, just like it is pictured (no hard top) on 37 inch tires.
The only trailer I used was the 3500lb tent trailer I pulled with the 40.
The trail we were on is a couple hundred km's in length.
Why would I want to drown my 40 in a situation like that?
The point is, if you cross properly, and use you head, you don't need a snorkel for expedition type wheeling.

You need to do some reading...

The King of water crossings is Mark W.

There are way way way more things that need to be done to do repeated water crossings with out causing damage to your rig, besides just slapping on a snorkle.

You have to run breathers on everything and I mean "everything" fuel pumps, Alts, coil, igniter, dizzys, starters, etc etc. And half of those wont require a breather but some other form of water protection. To do it right and for a rig to be able to with stand deep water and multi-crossings of streams everytime out.

Now I am not saying a normal rig can't be dunked every blue moon with out causing problems. I am just saying if you plan on playing in the water a lot there are things you need to do to keep your rig running right.

I suggest you read up with what the Alaska crew are up to because I swear half of those rigs should have props out the back of them...

How long do your TTs go back? ...Plenty of atricles from him on water crossings.

Mark would know why the water is the pic is that funny blue/green color.
The pic was taken in the Canadian Rockies and it is glacial melt water. Super cold, no swimming here.
I hope to join Mr. Whatley this summer or maybe the next on the Alaska Trek.

For some reason water got in to the transmission breather and messed it up.............so my insurance agreed to pay for a new transmission and torque converter ...total 7k

it's been 3 weeks and my FJ is still parked at the dealership waiting for a back ordered transmission.........:crybaby:
