is this common 60 quirk? a water gush / rush sound when you start the cruiser

* the temp. slide selector is pushed all the way to the hot side
* turn key, engine starts
* water gush / rush sound

never had a car or truck that ever made this noise.

Mine made the same noise. All I had to do was burp the radiator. I took the cap off and parked the front end downhill ( the radiator fill comes 90* out the top, if parked with front end uphill, air might just get trapped in radiator) and let it run with the heater on full warm. No noise since

that used to happen to me when my 85 4runner was losing coolant due to a failed head gasket, im not saying u have a head gasket problem, but u mite be losing coolant and/or u have excessive amounts of air in ur cooling system.

You want the inlet on the top of the radiator to be at the highest point of the cooling system. The air bubbles float to the highest point.

If the gurgling noise comes back after burping the cooling system, you might look into replacing the heater control valve. When the system cools, a worn out valve can let air get sucked in.

I second NorCal on that. The front end should be highest. I would recommend that you do this over some grass if possible as coolant will splash a bit when bubbles percolate.

Do a search for burping your engine....there have been other posts on this one....including maybe my own.

I read through the "burping your engine" threads. most seem to cover over-heating engines. Mine is not even close to over-heating. it might be the heater control valve that 60wag mentioned
