i have a fj60 petrol cruiser and im always a bit worried about going through deep water holes

i have just purchased a snorkel and im going to silicon up the drain holes in the airbox but what do you guys do about the dizzy leads and plugs situation

ive heard putting silicon on the end of the plugs and glueing them to the leads works ok but id still be worried

i no the ultimate answer is go diesel but just wanted to here what others do to keep the water out

thanks

There were 3 articles in the TT tech section that Mark wrote addressing this issue. I scanned them into pdf format. Let me know and I can email them to you. They may also be posted on the TLCA site as well.

Vorno,
Your Aussie spec truck does not have a waterproof dissy. You can waterproof it yourself, the same as we would do with a ~1976 USA dissy.

On the bottom of the dissy is a drain/breather hole. Glue or thread a small vacuum elbow fitting in the hole and connect hose from dissy to top of air cleaner.

Glue dissy cap on to dissy w/ silicon rubber RTV.

Use top quality plug wires (I prefer Yazaki), and use plenty of dielectric grease on the ends. Make sure they are fully snapped into the cap and onto the plugs.

Gap the plugs at the minimum stock specification. Bigger plug gap increases secondary KV, which leads to more/earlier spark leakage.

If done right, this will allow the truck to idle in a puddle w/ the dissy underwater.
