Quick question, what places here locally take waste oil?

Checker Auto by my house (67th & Peoria) takes clean waste oil. Call a nearby one and see.

Local transfer stations also.

I know a guy that has a centrifuge(sp) and turns it into fuel for his farm tractors. Cool idea.

Howdy! Most Checkers I know do take used oil, but they get filled up fast, and only emptied once each week/month. You have to pour it in yourself, and you have to take the empty containers home for disposal. My local Pep Boys has you just leave it on the floor in the repair bay, and they dump it and dispose of the containers. I think you have to fill in a log sheet for who/how much you bring, at both stores. Long time ago I heard that Jiffy Lube would take used oil if you take it in. John

well its been answered prtty good so i dont have anything to add,,,,,

splitshot ive been leaning to a centrifuge for the bio piggy instead of the regular backyard method, we'll see. i shoulda swapped in a bunk oil engine like the big freight ships use, then i could power the pig with almost anything oil based, including the sludge at the bottom of most grease buckets or heck, oil based paint mistints from home depot maybe. i have a honeycomb centrifuge from something i tried a few years ago;) but thats another story.

I just toss mine in the big blue recycle can and put it on the curb on wednesdays. City of mesa takes care of the rest.

The City of Mesa hates you! I lived there for many years, and they do not like to deal with old oil.
At Wal-mart, every oil can seems to have the Walmart mark on it. If you funnel your old oil into Walmart bottles, there will be very little problem getting your old oil accepted. You just have to sign for each gallon, and there is a limit of three gallons at a time.

You know I always love to quote Bobby's mom when it comes to Walmart.;)

If you have any questions or just want to pick his brain, I can probably dig up his number, he's in Marana. I've been wanting to go see him just so I can understand how the whole process works.

This is one of my favorite ways to use Walmart. They don't hassle me at all, even though I usually have at least 10 gallons of used oil. Checker and VAutoZone give me the runaround if they take it at all.

Hey Rhino,
I don't know if you visit biodiesel.infopop.cc but it is one of the best veggie oil forums out there.
At one time I was setting up a crazy cool centrifuge to filter waste oil for my kids benz but now we are just buying the biodiesel since that is easier for him...and about as far as his interest goes.
You are more than welcome to check out the setup and I would make a killer deal on all of it to clean out the shed. I live in central phx if you want to see all the parts in action.
I also have a water heater vac. tank for picking up waste oil, a vac pump and filter bag setup if any of that helps you out.
Someday I will get my own bio running 4x4 going but first I gotta get my money's worth out of my FJC.
