I have changed some things on my fj and was wondering if any of them will void my warranty? (tires and lift) I have noticed a click from under the steering wheel right after I start it. I want to take it in to the dealer soon. I also heard that if you dont get the oil changed at toyota it will void your warranty... Is this true?

The noice you hear right after start up is the VSC , Traction Control systems doing a self test of the systems . As far as the oil change i have never heard of that voiding the waranty if you do it yourself. Did the dealer tell you this ?

You might want to read up on the Magnussen-Moss Act of 1978 as it was created to protect vehicle owners from dealerships arbitrarily deny warranty claims, because of modification to your vehicle. The dealer can only deny a claim if they can prove that the modification caused the failure. The responsibility is on the dealership to the failure is related to the aftermarket parts or modifications.

Do a Google search for Magnussen-Moss and you'll find lots of information.

The Magnussen-Moss Act of 1978 actually does not provide a blanket of protection.

It does, however, prevent dealers from not honoring the terms of their warranty. They get to specify the terms, including - must use a genuine toyota oil filter...but cannot require the dealer to do regular maintenance.

Yes the fleet manager did. He said because its a new model and I got the extended warranty toyota would have to do all the maintanance to my car. Or I could run the risk of warranty issues.

From what I remember, they can not specify a specific brand of product to use, ie. OEM filter, or oil, but it has to meet the same (SAE?) standards/specs.
