I have a 2003 LX 470 with 76k miles. My Lexus Platinum coverage expires on 7/2015. Shopping for a good warranty company.

I called Westside Lexus in Houston and they have a company called AUL corporation. They cover 5yr/50k for $3550.00.

Thanks in advance.

Sounds expensive. I'd stay away.

Assuming you haven't just purchased this vehicle, you are only putting about 6500 miles a year on your LX. Save the cost of the warranty and put it into scheduled maintenance. If there is any vehicle on the planet I feel comfortable without a warranty, it's the 100 series LC/LX.

With normal wear items typically excluded from coverage, I'd be surprised if you save any money with an extended warranty on the LX/LC. What major failures are you hedging against?

the big picture is that you are essentially playing the odds with any sort of coverage like that, of course. Feel lucky or unlucky is the question.
But in general, aftermarket ones are I think notoriously bad deals, often with surprisingly large numbers of exclusions.
The LC is very reliable compared to others, so I would think such a coverage, even if relatively inexpensive (which this one does not seem to be), may well be less than very compelling or needed.
So basically, if you want some coverage for whatever reason, compare prices and especially coverage and exclusions very carefully.

The price of an aftermarket warranty is relevant only if you know what it covers, if there is a deductible, how claims are authorized and paid, and restrictions on who can do the work. I'm amazed the original Lexus extended service plan covered it for 12 years. I guess I'm not used to Lexus services. If you decide to do the warranty research, be sure to look up reviews/ratings of the companies.

If your concerned about high cost repairs sell it. If you have well documented maintenance and no accidents it will go very fast.

Bank that money and self insure. In all your years of ownership how often have you used your Platinum warranty?

Bought a lightly used RX 10 yrs. ago. Bottom dollar price was only if I bought a ext warranty which was a profit point. I never had a claim 'cause I never needed it to this day.

Hindsight is 20/20 but chances are you can put that same amount back for when you need it and be better off.

my wife got a 5 years Toyota extra warranty, it was a special deal. (Much less than OP.) We finally got -barely- her money's worth but only because I was desperately looking for things to go vaguely wrong on it to use the warranty, which they honored fully. And even on that one there were lots of exclusions.

When I bought a used 07 LX470 a couple years ago, the Lexus dealership was pushing their extended warranty. I specifically asked if it would cover: emissions air injection system, CV axle reboot/replacement, steering racks... took them awhile to research, but all came back as NOT covered. I never do extended warranties, but figured if those items were covered I'd go for it.

^ Smart.

spare yourself the warranty..... you're unlikely to offset that cost.... now if it was a range rover or Audi....

the exclusions are on all the things you'd likely need....

Funny all the Land Rover comments. I had one for the Land Rover and it was a complete waste of money. It covered one low cost item all the years of going back and forth to the dealer.
I chose NO warranty on the 100 and would recommend no warranty for anyone who asks.

On thie 100 series specifically I dont think it makes sense.
IF YOU DO get a warranty find out if it will replace the items mentioned a couple posts above, might possibly in some rare instance break even if it does. Otherwise it is just throwing money out the window.
