Sorry for the noob quetion.

I just got my 97 LX450 and have a few questions about the dash warning lights on start up. Do all the lights illuminate when you put the key to the run position?

Reason for the question is I do not see a CDL light and think I am missing a couple others. I'm not sure if the bulbs are burned out or not, I do not get the CDL light when I put it in 4lo as well so it maybe a stuck switch on the T case. But even if it was suck would I not get the light on the first start? I have not had a 2nd person available to test and see if I can hear the CDL engaing or not.

Any one able to give me a left to rigth list of warning lights on first start?

Just want to make sure I am not missing anything.

If I can get that left ot right list it would alow me to check the other missing warning lights when I have the dash out. Then go from there and dig into the components.

I will also post in here what ones I am missing and what I have tried to resolve it.

Thanks,

Jeremy

Yes they light up in the run mode before start. However your 97 will only show the CDL light when in 4 low. To see the light you need to be in 4 low I belive.

The 97 needs the CLD 7 pin upgrade to have a switch for use in 4 high. You can get the CDL to stay engaged if you shift to 4 low and than remove the CDL fuse. To disengage replace fuse.

If you install a CDL switch and do the 7 pin mod you'll be able to use a dash switch and not have to remove and replace the fuse when needed.

Do a search in FAQ lots of info.

Owner's manual should show exactly which lights are supposed to be illuminated upon start up.

Thanks, I have gone through the FAQ and searches on CDL and Pin 7 I know how to do the mod was just wondering if it lights up when the key is turned to run like the check engine and ABS lights. My diff locker lights do the same. Just thought it was strange that the CDL did not.

Yeah would be great if I had it, $2000 truck so I did not get much with it.

My understanding is that the CDL switch allows you to lock the center differential in 4 HI (even w/o the mod) and with the switch and the Pin 7 mod you can unlock the differential in 4 LO. (ideal for making tight turns and such)

Maybe someone can confirm or refute this.

hey noob nice to here you found a truck, and 2000 good deal man. if you want you can call me. set up a time this weekend early ,come by and use my switches to fiquire it out .

Somehow I new you were gonna say that.

You really ought to call Toyota Publications and get one. Less than $20 I think, and surprisingly useful, with things like fluid capacities for tranny, diff's, etc.

if you register your VIN with lexus, you can get an owner's manual for free. you will also be able to see all dealorship service done on the vehicle.

Correct off Slee's site:
"This modification does not have anything to do with the CENTER DIFFERENTIAL LOCK SWITCH (CDL) directly. You do not have to do this, if you just install a CDL switch. The purpose of this mod is to overide the default behavior of the vehicle that automatically lock the center diff in low range.
However if you do this mod, you are going to need a CDL switch, otherwise you will never be able to lock the center diff."

Here is a link for the 7 pin mode off Slee's site: Slee - Pin 7 Mod for CDL (Toyota 80 Series Land Cruiser)

I should of clarified that better.

I was just pointing out if he was going to take the time to do the CDL mod why not get the most bang for your trouble by also doing the 7 pin mod giving him the best of both for an extra 1/2 hour of time.

Thanks man, unfortunately the truck is not on the road right now. Need to do a bunch of maintenance before I drive it much. I may permit it for the day saturday though to get it AirCared. If I do I will call and set it up. Thanks for the offer none the less.

HAHA yeah I was not expecting much, but the LX450 and 97 40th I looked at also did not have them and they were $10K + with out lockers.

I will give that a shot, its a Canadian truck so not sure they do the same here as in the US.

Thanks, I plan on doing both mods in the near future. Just want to get it all base lined first.

Any one have a list of warning lights on start up that I can reference to mine?

Thanks for the help so far!

Jeremy
