I am a total winch novice. I just bought a TJM bumper and it came with a Warn M12000 mounted. The cable was wound kind of messy so i pulled it off to clean it and make the winch lighter to mount. I found a few sharp kinks in the cable, some near the drum end. I will post some pics later. Two questions, do kinks mean it should be replaced? If it should be rplaced i was thinking of using synthetic line to cut some weight. What line should i use on the Warn 12000 for a FJ80? Honestly i think the 12000 is way over kill for me. I plan on doing more exploring and light 4 wheeling than rock crawling. So i dont plan on any crazy pulls. But i am really new to all of this. So that is why i am asking you guys.

PS I think the 12000 might not actually fit in the corrctly in the bumper. It looks like the bumpr might have to had bn mountr a little further out from the proper place to fit it. Would it be OK to try to trade it for a lighter smaller winch or does a 80 need a M12000?

The 80 does need a 12k lbs winch. They weigh a lot and if you take the gvwr's and times them by 1.5 or 2 you'll see why. As for your winch line it wouldn't be a bad idea to replace it. Kinks in a line like that aren't good to have and ruin the line.

Steve...from Southeast Overload, a supporting vendor here on Mud, has some great synthetic winch lines, excellent advice and great pricing.

My guess would be 3/8 ....but maybe somebody that has more knowledge could chime in...
