I've loved these trucks since they first came out and now I've just got to have one. What should i look for (good stuff) and what should i watch out for (other then rust) How much should I expect to pay for one thats in really good shape?
THX, Don

Welcome Don. If you're looking for an already complete truck your best bet will probably be tlc4x4.com. They are in Van Nuys and do very nice restorations. You'll pay through the freaking nose though, so brace yourself.

If you're looking for something to build up yourself, try to find the straightest body you can with the least rust. Small rust spots can be cut out and new metal welded in, but larger problems require replacement. Everything else can be sourced for parts (engine is common among many models including FJ40 and FJ60/62) but body parts for our aging swine are difficult to come by.

Good luck and let us know (with pics) when you find your first piggie!

Don -

You'd be well advised to spend some time in the tech section for fj55's. That section is much more geared toward the info you're after.

And......welcome to the forum!

THX for the replys, just wondering about the stock drive train. I've heard top speed for stock FJ's is about 60 mph is this true. Here in So-Cal everybody is running 80 mph on the freeways. Mabe I need the 350 4 speed setup????

I got to drive my first pig last week, it was a joy to be sure, it had a rebuilt F and a 3 speed. When i was driving it he said the freeway is up to the right, i said "ummm thats cool i dont need to take it on the freeway" i cant even imagine taking that 3 speed on the freeway. doing 50 in 3rd was pretty obnoxious, i couldnt imagine doing 60-65. Not to mention not even my grandmother would be cought dead doing 65 on the freeway in so cal. you would be run over or see this alot :flipoff2::flipoff2: lol so id count on doing a 4 speed if it doesnt already have one.
