Looking for
A: Diesel 60 good shape not rusty. or
B: Diese 60 for swap
I would prefer to import a truck in good shape then go through the trouble of the swap. I want to know what is out there. so if you have a great running diesel 60 drop me a line. thanks
-Miles

Hollywood CA? there is a fine H diesel with 5 speed fairly close to you for sale, check the diesel section

...are you in the market for a project , or willing to spend on a finished ride? Go the ( as stated earlier), western Canadian route and then transplant the running gear into a rust free SW USA rig, or somehting similar. Just depends on the level of commitment.. best of luck.

Don't forget you will have restrictions to deal with if you investigate importation. It is for the 25 year rule that many of us have fitted Canadian diesel motors into FJ60 trucks.

It will be difficult to find a rust free BJ/HJ 60. Also, they will be high mileage trucks that will require maintenance. HJ60 CDN spec are 24v.

Since you are in California, there are special restrictions on what you can register here. Any hj60/bj60 registered in the US but not California will probably be what is considered a 49-state vehicle. You also officially can't transplant a 3B or 2H or 13BT or 12HT (or any other diesel engine besides the Mercedes diesels) into an FJ60 in California. People have been able to get away with it but "officially" they are not legal in California. You role the dice when you first try to register it at the DMV. You can import a bj60 or hj60 from Canada into California but you can't do an engine swap.

thanks for all the comments. I was worried about the restrictions. seems like importing is the way. What is the 49 state vehicel mean? that you can not reg. it in cali if it is registered in say NV. or OR?

Yep. It has to be explicitly imported into Cali. The other 49 states don't have the regs that Cali does concerning diesels in light duty vehicles. Although many states are starting to change to follow California's lead with new vehicles.

Right. You aren't allowed to put an engine that wasn't certified for california into a vehicle that has california emissions. For a 60, you're pretty much looking at mercedes stuff (which is probably too light duty unless you talk me out of one of the OM603s I have, and even that is pushing it), GM diesels (6.2/6.5, as they came in a suburban), and if you're really clever at talking to referees, any of the ford diesels to 1996 as they came in the centurion.

If your 60 in california has 49 state emissions, then the restriction on california certified engines doesn't exist.

It's also worth pointing out how slow a BJ-60 is. Spec horsepower is something like 93, and this is a HEAVY vehicle. Probably the best way to illustrate it is second gear going up the grapevine, doing maybe 35 mph tops if I had to guess. I think Rosco (from Australia) said it best when he said that a 3B powered cruiser was slower than the second coming of christ. This being the case, you may be happier in the long run with a 6.2/6.5 if you have to have a diesel. Only power complaint I have with a 6.2 is having to put the dually in 2L to get up sonora pass with a slide in camper :bang:
