After a year of conversations and negotiations, the wife has finally given the ok to buy a 40.
She's finally seeing that it could be a bit of fun for the whole family. She's a good wife, even if she doesn't get the fascination.
That year of dreaming and chatting has given me a pretty good idea of what I want. If I can get most of the 'love to haves", I can add the 'nice to haves' to build out my ideal cruiser...
Love to haves...
- Power steering
- Front disk brakes
- Factory paint color (mustard, see foam green, tan, white are favorites)
- Clean, non-butchered interior
- 4 speed (I want to use it as a fair weather commuter - 23 highway miles each way)
- Strong daily driver due to the above
Nice to haves...
- Long jump seats and early model bench front seat (i've got 5 kids and want to have a spot for each butt for trips around town)
- Family roll cage because of the above
- Stock steel wheels with hub caps
My budget is $8,000-$10,000 (including shipping/transport). For that price range I know that I'm not getting a restoration, but would like some preservation done.
Here's two examples that sold recently that I'd have jumped on if I'd had the green light a bit earlier...

I'm in the Raleigh/Durham area of NC, but am willing to look anywhere across the country for the right rig.
