VSVs - School me (1 Viewer)

I have an 1989 FJ62, how many VSVs are there? How can I test them or do they just get replaced? What do they look like? Can I get a bunch from other Toyota cars/trucks at the local pull n save while I'm there?

I'm a moron when it comes to the emissions equipment. I haven't worked on it except to replace the EGR.

Definitely buy (or download) the emissions manual.

The VSVs are Vacuum Switching Valves. Some have two ports, some have three, as well as wires going to them. When voltage is applied, the VSVs can turn vacuum on or off, or switch the source of the vacuum (in the case of three port VSVs).

I don't believe they are availible. I got mine used as I never definitively heard about substitutes.

One VSV controls vacuum to the EGR.

The other two, some times referred to as the OC (oxygen catalyst) and AI (air injection) VSVs go to your big smog switching valve on your drivers side fender. They control where the smog pump air goes to (exhaust manifold, exhaust pipe, or bypassed).
