Guys,
I've got a few questions about the Vortec swap to ask:

1. Did you keep the stock Toyota vapor separator? Isn't it just a piece of plastic that runs 4 ports into 1?

2. I'm trying to do a returnless fuel setup. Do you guys know what the 3 ports coming out of the returnless pump are for? Fuel, Evap can, and Vent?

3. Has anyone done a returnless fuel setup? What does the fuel system look like? I'm using a 2007 GM 5.3L Vortec L59 like Manuchao.

Any help would be great!!

I would want a return system becuase that is returning the fuel that is not needed. I think the part you are talking about is the charcoal filter system that is under the hood on the fire wall you can do away with it. There is a bunch of stuff you can plug off and do away with around the factory fuel tank if you are still retaining that

I've got the returnless system planned out and I'm crossing my fingers that it will work. Also, since I've got to pass CA smog, I'll be using the donor vehicle's charcoal can (It's cheaper, and more readily available.)

I'll be keeping the stock 60 fuel tank. The vapor separator just doesn't seem necessary. I'm just wondering if any of the other V8 swap guys used the vapor separator.

Dylan.... I take it the vapor separator is the one that sits on the quater panel at the rear ?......

If it is.. Im using it....and Im running the evap canister from GM....Im getting a P0446 code and cant seem to get rid of it....

I found this link re: returnless systems and why new cars are going this way... You might not need the link but here it is anyways..... I really never thought of getting rid of the separator........

I am running a Fuel Pressure Regulator now but I know is not okay with the refs here in CA....... is quiet but when it runs for a few hours it gets too loud....I thought of getting a FJ62 tank or a long range tank and running an in-tank fuel pump with the fuel pressure regulator inside the quarter panel......

Let me know if you end up doing something like this.....:beer:

Here is the link..

Diagnosing Returnless Fuel Injection Systems

Oh yeah I tried to run the engine as "returnless" . fuel from tank to filter to fuel pump to engine and cap the return line... It ran,,,,but the fuel pump was super loud as it was pumping 120 pounds of pressure into the engine...

Thanks for the link Frank. I'm going to use the fuel pump assembly from a 2007 Silverado. It's got the pump, fuel pressure sensor, fuel pump regulator all in the module. I just have to modify the fj60 gas tank to get it to fit. I'm trying to do all of the emissions stuff that the donor vehicle has. The more I can do to avoid the CA smog guys, the better.

What did the smog refs say about the FPR?

Frank,
Here's what I have for the DTC P0446 that you're seeing.

There's 3 parts of this system: EVAP purge solenoid, EVAP vent solenoid, Fuel pressure sensor.

The FP sensor is supposed to control the purge and vent solenoids. I don't think you have a fuel pressure sensor, and if not, you will set this DTC every time.

Maybe you can program the fuel pressure sensor out of the computer? I don't know...

HTH, dude.
