I sure was hoping for an Intro thread first, but low and behold, I need the collective help. I've got a 1981 FJ45, Troopy. Built in Japan (A11) but used by the Chilean Army before me. So its got a heater and such. Battery overcharged last weekend and looked like Old Faithful, so I suspect a bad voltage regulator. Other clue was headlights dim when I take my foot off the accelerator.

I pulled the voltage regulator and contacted CruiserTeq to see if he had any replacements. Well, stumped them. He doesn't have any that look like this and not sure if there is a substitute. (side note, he was very helpful and super responsive but no luck finding one).

Sooooo......
Here is what I have. Anyone know if replacements/substitute is available? Six wires out of the housing and wound solenoids that activate what I can only assume are On/Off contacts.
Any help or guidance would be very much appreciated.

Odd that this was an issue for Cruiserteq. Might be a market specific thing.

The regulator you have is a New Era AVR 551. Usually the correct one is an AVR 554. Nevertheless, the regulators are freely available from Toyota still new -

No need to get a supposed unicorn overpriced part from an enthusiastic seller. The new era part is probably $30 and the OE Toy is $60-70.

Dang you all are amazing! Thank you so much. Checked a couple vendors and couldn't come up with it.

Thanks again

No need to get the supposed unicorn overpriced parts
411 from an over-enthusiastic fellow member taking a cheap swipe using cheap false 411 $'# , .

i should start using " probably " too ? this way , probably ....... a market specific thing , would probably not be a specific thing at all .......

There are a few members and Vendors on here that contribute greatly to this community, Matt being one of them. You might be able to source that part a few dollars cheaper somewhere on the internet but the chances are you will be buying from someone who could care less about a landcruiser or this Forum. At the top of the main forum page is a vendor link.

Welcome to the forum and let's see some pictures!

That looks like a cool truck. I really want a spot top 45 one day

OEM list (in the USA) is $157.90.

….or less, but T-Matt still has a better price for (maybe) the same quality item?
