Greetings all,
I’m wondering if anyone would be willing to share what it cost them to have a chrome delete done on their truck?
I’ve got a 2016 and want to have the front grille, lower door trim and rear hatch chrome and chrome below the windows covered with matte black vinyl.
Just trying to figure out a ballpark idea of what is a reasonable price. I’ve taken it to the place that has done graphic work on our work vehicles and they claim the chrome below the windows can be vinyl wrapped. I know some folks are painting those parts.

Thanks in advance for any insight!

My LX570 is currently in for chrome delete. It was $350 to have the lower door trim, rear hatch chrome, chrome below the windows, side view mirror chrome and the chrome on the front grille. They were unable to get the vinyl to stick to the rest of the grille so we're just going to paint it. Decided on Satin Black vinyl since the paint is metallic. I'll post pics after I pick it up.

I got a quote for the same last week for $450. They recommended a few coats of plasti dip on LC front grill and rear chrome. The doors and windows with vinyl.

I charge $2200-$2400 (all paint, no vinyl). Depending on black Shine/ color match code. That’s for all 22-pieces painted. 20 of the 22 are removed (Both third row window molding are painted on the vehicle, not possible to remove w/o removing glass)
- lower fog surrounds (2-pieces) each side. Four total.
- both headlamp wings
- grille
- four lower door moldings
- five chrome trim pieces on rear tailgate light surrounds
- V8 / Toyota emblems (new Replacments)
- six window moldings

PPG Envirobase paint + clear coat, labor is ~70% of the cost.
I used vinyl for a while on lower fog surrounds and window moldings but it just doesn’t hold up and I consider my vinyl vendor 1st class.

If you have the skill set to remove everything and reinstall it you could probably have everything painted for $600-800.

you can do some damn fine things with a can of plastidip and some painters tape. I had great luck blacking out my badges on my lx470. Worth a shot.

I got a number of quotes in Denver between $350 and $1000. $400-550 was about average to do all the chrome on a 2013 LX570.

Thanks for all the input everyone!

Has anyone had bad luck or issues with the chrome under the windows being wrapped vs painted? Seeing as they are so small I’m wondering if this is a concern.

I got a quote of $218 to wrap just the chrome portion of the door trim ("body side moulding" on lower part of doors). That was two hours of labor plus two 60"x4" pieces of 3M 1080 trim in flat black. Pass.

Have that wrapped on our LX that is in the shop now, can provide pics once the job is done and I get the LX back.

I‘ve received quotes anywhere from $850 to $1200 for wrap here in Minneapolis. Given the harsh environment that I live in, I’d rather go with paint rather than vinyl that would most likely need replacing every 2-3 years. @Eric Sarjeant thank you for the detailed description of your process for paint. Prior to picking up my 2017, I drooled over your builds and have benefited from your sharing of information as I chart out my build.

Why is paint > vinyl in a harsh environment?

I'm in PA, this is not a daily driver, will be our family adventure-mobile so lots of long trips and possibly the occasional winter foray if I can stomach taking a SoCal truck out into the salt?!

When it comes to the grill. Just take it off and rattle can it right. Comes off easily. Plastidip is great, but grilles get hit with rocks and touching up spray paint is easier and looks better than touching up with plastidip.

Just assuming that vinyl has a life expectancy before you have to replace and salt, ice, snow, negative temps for sustained amount of time can take a toll on the appearance of the vinyl.

...if I have to layout $1000 to get vinyl and will have to replace every few years, might as well bite the bullet and spend another $1000 more and get it painted.

The plan is to rattle can the grill for now. We might do a 2 color / finish pattern and that way it will be cheap and easy to change if we decide to go a different direction. I could have had him adhere the vinyl to the grill as was previously suggested but the finish in those areas is so rough there was concern about it not looking right especially in areas that might get a glossier finish.

We were told 5 - 10 years is what we should expect from our vinyl wrap work, depending on how harsh the conditions are with salt, sun, sand, and so on. I think that's pretty good and for 1/6 of the price of paint I can live with it.

If someone paints 2016+ LC and screws up paint job, let me know as I have an extra grille I can unload cheap since swapped it to a different one. All my paint jobs turned up not that good so not going to even attempt it.

Just picked up the LX from chrome delete. Thanks to the team at All Aspects Garage for the wrap and Ascend Tint for the tint.

Paint and Vinyl are both incredible products. I think each has their best applications were each will be better that the other.
Based on experience, vinyl works best when you have a lip to wrap around. With a grill that becomes challenging (Time consuming) because of all the folds and physical size. Time equals money (labor hours). I think the window moldings in vinyl are going to fail. The rear of a 2016+ 200 is not a conducive shape to vinyl adhering well (protrusion/indention of the words “Land Cruiser”). IMO lower fog surrounds and and lower door moldings are the only things worthy of vinyl. Since the other 14-16 pieces are better in paint, it just makes sense to paint them all.
