HI,

I have been battling a road vibration problem with my 97 tacoma for the past year. I purchased the truck a little over a year ago and the tires were worn down quite a bit and had some weird wear patterns on them. Nothing out of the norm from someone not getting an alignment or something to that sort. So thats what I figured was causing the vibration. I purchased new 32 12.50's (oversized for this truck) BFG AT's as soon as I got it back home figuring the vibration problem would go away. It didn't.

It mainly vibrates at speeds around 45 - 65 mph. I still assumed it was the tires and had the tire company balance and recheck the tires many times. Still no change. So then I thought it might be because of the oversized tires, so I had them change the tires and put 31/10.50's on. Still no change the truck still vibrates while driving on the road at those speeds. I've had a mechanic check the truck out and they can find nothing. They even say that the shocks look and respond fine as well. They did find a little looseness in the axel's and there was a problem with the hubs being a little loose. they repacked the hubs and took the looseness out of the axels. Still no change. I also made sure the wheels were aligned.

If anyone has had this problem or knows anything that I might check please please let me know. It is very annoying driving my truck down the road everyday. The vibration can be felt in the seat and mainly in the stearing wheel.

Any advice/help would be much obliged. The truck is starting to rattle apart. :-(

Thanks.

Is it a wheel speed, or tailshaft speed vibration?

Has a wheel alignment been done?

Have you had the wheels balanced on the car?

hve you rotated the wheels/tyres?

have you rotated the shocks side to side?

It's most likely a wheel speed problem because the vibration usually occurs around 45-65mph.

The wheels have been aligned, rotated, balanced many times. That doesn't help.

Rotated the shocks? NO, How can this help?

Thanks for the help.

Front driveshaft balance weight knocked off? ???

This is interesting, how do I check to see if this has been knocked off?

Thanks

take it to a driveshaft place to have checked trying it your self sounds dangerass you know?-thats driveline repair it not to much money to have checked ihad drivelines dont for my truck it cost me 40 to shorten 100 to lenthen-any way good luck let us know k

I would ask how they repacked the front wheel bearings and removed the slack from them... since they are not servicable. Replacment only.

Also, inspect the inner tierods again, early Tacos are known for eating them.

Thanks for the info guys. I'll probably go and have a driveshaft place check it out. I'll also check out the tierods. I'll let you all know how it turns out after I have them look at it.

Could the shocks/struts be a problem? Or the brakes?
