Has anyone found the harmonic balancer to be the problem causing a bad vibration?
I have a bad vibration at speeds over 40mph, can't drive over 60. It shakes so bad my carb has vibrated loose twice.
I have been through everything else on the truck.
It started after my H55F install.
I have a new H55F, rebuilt x-fer,new clutch, new u-joints, drive shafts rebalanced, rear axle shafts checked, new 285/75-16 Dueler AT revo's. did it with the old tires as well.
I have gone through everything I know. Possibilities left:
Harmonic balancer
new clutch&pressure plate not balanced
flywheel out of balance after resurface

any possibility of these being the culprit?
thanks for any ideas.

diffs? i didnt notice anything about checking those

Can you make it vibrate in neutral when the truck isn't moving? When it is vibrating at 40mph, can you put it in neutral and make the vibration go away?

Sounds like transmission or ujoint problems. Seeing the previous posts also check to see if your ujoints are centered (i.e. make syre thay move freely in all planes), and that they are in phase with one another ((that on each shaft the cap are in line) or you will pick up a harmonic like vibration.

drive shaft?

When you removed and reattached your drive shaft/s, did you put them back the same way? You may have it out of balance if you did not. There are 32 different possible way if you took it off the diffs as well as the transmission

Darryl,
a quick thought .. was the clutch new or rebuilt-new? I have run in to problems with some cars where the rebiuld clutches were out of balance, and or the pressure plate fingers wre weak. These clutches gave me a variety of malodies 1 of which was a bizzare midrange vibration that got worse when going above mid range speeds. Just a thought.

Bob, I can't remember where I got the clutch. I've been working on this problem for quite some time. but I'm thinking that could be my problem.
shift lever vibrates as well, but it's hooked to a brand new H55F. I may have to do the clutch job again. I'm just trying not to skip something before I dig into that project again. thanks for the input.
