On the way home from the beach yesterday I noticed a slight vibration noise coming from underneath my '99. It was a very quiet rattling noise, like maybe a heat shield. It was very quiet, I had to turn the radio and the AC off to hear it. Anyway, before I crawl under there I was hoping someone could tell me where to start and what to look for (ie. a loose nut or bracket).

So, if anyone has any experience with this please let me know...

Thanks, in advance.

It is probably the heat sheild. What I did was stick my rachet wrench into the space between the sheild peices and bend it just a bit so when it vibrates, it wont hit each other and make that annoying sound.

I had the same rattle in my '99 a few months back. It would rattle when I accelerated from a stop. Very faint, but annoying. It turned out to be a heat shield. I don't have the tools or the time to fix that type of stuff myself, so I took it to the dealer. Parts cost about $125. The labor was rolled in with a bunch of other maintenance type items, so I don't know how much it cost total. The rattle stopped immediately though.

I would like to know how you resolved it too. I have the same noise and it is embarassing when pulling through a drive thru and the rattling begins. Thanks for any help you can provide.

Hey 98LXand99LC,
Did you ever get this issue fixed? If so, what was your resolution?

I just fixed my rattle last night. It was not the heat shield but was a loose and broken muffler clamp on the exit side of the muffler. If mine was that bad i.e. the bolt had actually broken off maybe the slight vibs are a result of a weakening clamp.

Just a thought.

I got under mine this past weekend while doing the oil/filter change. Checked all my hangers and heat shields, didn't find anything out of order. I tugged on the heat shields above the cats and haven't noticed any rattling since.
