All,

I have very light surface rust under the hood and want opinions on whether I should leave it or try to clean it up with some sort of chemical and apply a protectant?

Thanks

Here are the pics, its only on the right side of the engine for some reason.

Yes, every thing is original. The doors, fenders all have vin stickers on them.

To me it seems rust water stain vs actual rust.

Yea, looks like a stain. I wouldn't worry about that in the engine bay. If you are worried, check around the bolt holes (where stuff is bolted on) and see if its bubbling. Try cleaning it off first. If it is rust, you could remove some of the items bolted over the area. Then, brush on some naval jelly (careful, its acid) let it sit for a couple hours, hose it off, dry, sand as needed and paint it. Auto paint shops can mix your color in a spray can.

Maybe a light mix of CLR and water. I'd think it would wipe right up like in the commercials.
