This is a bit detailed, but that might help. I am looking for a nice, clean, rebuilt, tastefully modified FJ62 / FJ60 / HJ60. Tired of chasing deals that go other directions, and I am too slow for the good ones on craigslist. Let the tire kicking begin!

Cash purchase up to $7-10k for the right truck with the right goodies in the right condition, or will trade against my current truck too if interested, see next post for details (there is an end, I promise). I expect a clear title to be easily had, no BS.

What I am looking for (trying to get most of this from the start):
Body-rust free, either good paint or quality repaint and correct body work if any done. If all it needs a good buff job, that is easy enough at the detail shop. Floor panel/wheelwells should be sound also. Don't like red, otherwise color is not too important.

Frame-either rust free or correctly mitigated, cleaned and painted. I can deal with a bit of surface rust that is easy to get at and fix.

Engine-recently rebuilt, overhauled and livened up. Clean, new gaskets, hoses, belts, water pump, etc. A strong running 3FE getting decent MPG or I am really interested in a 1HZ, 12HT, 1HD diesel swap. De-smogged is fine, if well done, no inspection or emissions here in my corner of good old TN.

Fully working and serviced A/C system and working heat. Newer radiator, tstat, hoses.

Transmission-either the stock auto or a H55f swap. Again, rebuilt, clean, new gaskets, prefer a Rodney valve body for the auto and an external cooler.

Transfer case-you get the idea, rebuilt or at the very least serviced with new gaskets and in good order.

Axles-fully serviced, new seals, rebuilt knuckles, birfs, bearings, etc, at least one locker. Regeared with 4.88 ideally.

Other stuff I'd like but can add myself later:
Front bumper with a spot for a winch, such as an ARB
Rear bumper with swing away tire carrier (rear rocker protection is fine too) and tow hitch
Sliders would be nice too
Extended range fuel tank
Rear disk brakes would be nice
Slight lift, not more than 3 inches or so
Ability to run 31-33 inch tires (I am not going to run 35"+ tires, ever)
New springs/shocks that can carry additional loads listed plus us and stuff
More interior storage/drawers
Back seat needs the upper attachment point for shoulder belts
No rust hiding under chrome, in fact, the less chrome the better
Good interior carpet, seats will probably get canvas style covers anyway
Working windows and locks would be a real plus
Snorkel, flipped U-bolts, and a nice exhaust? Great, but I won't hold my breath
New carpet, seats, and a nice stereo with sound deadening?? Great, but I really won't hold my breath

Yes, I realize that a rebuilt turbo diesel with the H55f would be above $10 grand with any kind of decent body and frame attached to it.
For that dream case, I would consider trades on my truck or selling my truck to add more $$ to the pot.

I am in north east TN, near Johnson City, and will go a reasonable distance to get the right truck.

So who has a nice cruiser they would like to sell?? :grinpimp:

My truck is a 2005 Nissan (I know, too cheap to buy a Toyota) Frontier 4wd king cab, less than 43k on the clock, Nismo, loaded, KMA winch bumper with 9000 pound Milemarker winch, Shrock sliders, rear e-locker, traction control, more options than you can shake a stick at, factory spray bedliner, sound deadening (rides super quiet), nearly new AT tires, 12v air compressor and additional wiring done for other loads such as inverter and stereo amp with fuses in the center console, 6 disc in dash MP3 factory cd changer with steering wheel controls (surprising how handy that is), additional leaf in the rear springs for heavier loads with less sagging, tow package, V-6, auto transmission with factory cooler, lots of airbags and neat-o safety stuff. Alloy wheels with matching spare.

KBB value plus add ons is around $19,000 taking off a little for one ding. I own it free and clear, no BS, TN title, I have owned it since new and am meticulous with maintenance. Front bumper needs to be painted, it is rattle can black. Only body ding is in driver's side rear quarter panel just in front of the rear bumper, kissed the retaining wall in the driveway and it pushed the factory bumper into the truck,
it's not too bad really, but it is there. Going to sell the truck pretty much as it sits once I get a cruiser and a small trailer.

I'll try to get truck pictures up as my post count lets me, probably end of this week though with work.

Is this thing on?? Hello??

Looking for a really good condition frame/body FJ62, prefer a diesel but will take a freshened up 3FE. Clear title a must. Slight updates and mods welcome, I can always finish a project or add to what you have done already. Talked to a few people, looking for as many cruisers as I can to get a good one.

Wanting to trade on my truck (title in hand) or cash sell up to $10k (ready to go, let's do it) depending on what is on the FJ.

Thanks fjdemon, I have looked at that one a few times, and keep thinking about it!

back to the top of the heap for a bit, still looking, getting a few hits though, thanks!

Do you need to be emissions compliant?

I have a 1988 FJ62 that has been desmogged. I have all the smog parts.

There is the obligatory small amount of rust on the rear wheel wells that I am actually going to have repaired in the next few weeks. My body guy is going to bead blast the rust out, neutralize the bare metal, weld in some new metal, and then spray from the belt line down with color matched coating that has a texture somewhere between normal rocker coating to rhino lining.

It was originally purchased in Colorado, then lived in Texas and Arizona.

Without really thinking about it, I'd probably be in the $4000-$4500 range. Everything works, the air is cold, the lift is right around a year old, the tint was done last October, the tires have tons of tread.
I installed new cargo area carpet, I have added retractable 3 point seat belts to the back seat. The dash has a couple cracks that are covered by a Dashmat. The console is in perfect condition along with the rest of the interior.

I rebuilt the front birfields last Summer and installed new wheel bearings, brake pads and rotors at that time. I put new rear wheel cylinders and shoes on it last Fall. The Brake booster and master cylinder were also replaced last Spring sometime.

It has right around 214K miles on it. I was told the engine was replaced at ~120K, but I don't have any supporting documentation. The oil pan leaks a little, I have another gasket, just not the time to replace it yet. It doesn't smoke, starts every time. Even if it hasn't been run for a while.

It may not be important to you, but we are not smokers.

thanks for posting, will give it some thought for sure. the rust fix paint job idea sounds interesting too.

no emissions or inspections where I live, so desmog is a-OK.

actually, know that you mention it, a non smoking car is really important to me!

also, I have updated the first post to clear it up some.

I am most interested in a good condition body/frame that has had the needed major mechanical rebuilds done properly. Also really interested in a decent truck with a diesel (FJ60 or FJ62 or HJ60 or imported from up North) and the major mechanicals done too.

Some of the offroad camping stuff I can add later.

still looking. came really close the other day with Joshmd, so there are great rigs still out there, at least I hope there are some more of them!

The Frontier does exist. Washed it today finally, took some shots. Will post more up to a photo site soon.

The search is expanding...still looking for that nice FJ62, but also looking at 1995-97 FZJ80 for creature comforts.

Up to date maintenance very important, similar goodies as the 62 search, minimal lift, bumper, sliders, etc. For the FZJ80, the front airbags would be wanted.

Prefer no roof rack and cloth interior, but for the right upkeep and prices, I can look the other way on those things.

Have a few good leads from here, but more options are always welcome.

Well, the search is over, or at least it better be. Got an expo white 1996 80 series with great upkeep and all major maintenance already done. Now to start making it mine.

Thanks for all the help along the way.
