I see a bunch of threads recommending Vern for headgasket work. Does he also do general-mechanic Toyota work? I need a good general mechanic for my wife's sequoia.

Where his is shop?

Jared

Vern

He does all Toyota repair. Been doing Toyota's for like 30 years. Uses only OEM Toyota parts as well. He's in Mesa

They did a great job on my truck (hg, water pump, radiator, alternator, etc)

The front plate was catching the leg of the mechanic, he removed it & accidentally broke my license plate frame, it was a cheap plastic pos, I said don't worry no big deal. Vern called me yesterday he got me a new one!

That is what I call going above & beyond.

I am ordering a PHH from 1FZFEPHH & will be taking it to Vern to put it on.

BTW they did the whole job in 10 days, and the truck is running better than ever!

Any reason why you need a new PHH right after HG job?

Peace of mind. I have no idea how old it is. I am not risking the motor to a piece of hidden hose.

Nope. There was no mention of it & I don't see it on my bill. It shows the headset, R&R head surface head, machine head, valve job, radiator, water pump, thermostat drive belts radiator, cap dist cap, rotor, plugs & wires & alternator. No hoses nor mention of hoses.

I'll call Vern tomorrow and ask.

I bought the PHH and had Vern install it when he did my head gasket. The mechanic who did it agreed to do so but he wasn't very happy about it. They absolutely hate using anything other than OEM Toyota parts and he said tightening the clamps on the hose was a real beeotch. He may not want to do it again.

I'm sure Vern replaced it with the Toyota OEM parts. He did the same with mine when he fixed my head gasket. I kind of wanted to get the PPH, but I'm sure the OEM will hold up for at least 100,000 miles.

Did he put it on your bill? Mine is very specific and has all the parts/labor itemized very well & no hoses of any kind are listed.

I got busy last week and never called him. I am going to be busy until Thursday this week, work is crazy so I most likely won't get to it until Thursday. We'll see when I call him.

I just looked at my invoice, and yes he had it listed on it. Heater hose was $20.43 & Labor was $80.00.
On mine he did all belts, hoses, water pump, thermostat, head work, head gaskets, fluids
Total cost 1,988.30

Hopefully he saw it had been replaced recently (would have been before March 2006 as that is when I bought the truck) & left it in. The belts were only a few months old, I just got them from Dan & they were replaced.

I'll happily pay to have it done as I really don't want to have it in the back of my mind (front really) as something that could fail at any moment.

Thanks

PHH should have been removed for the HG job. Have you checked if new hose was used during reassembly?

I just came back from having Vern listen to it, the valves seemed noisier than they had been, Vern said it was fine & he did r&r the PHH!

YEA VERN!!!!!!!!!!!

Now I have a PHH for when this one goes in 100k.

:D

I am sure he can do it. My invoice shows 85.00 per hr. He gave me a 10% discount because my bill ballooned due to the unanticipated radiator & alternator needing replacement.

Vern good to do diff gears? Anyone know his advertised shop rate?
I checked around for my 80 regear and Vern was by far the highest. I went with 4 wheelers supply on Washington. They've done my 60 and 80 regear and have done a great job for about half the price. Highly recommend them.

Hi,
is Toy Specialists the place near Mesa & Southern? I've been looking for a shop to swap my 1977 differentials for some of the newer 3:70 gears that I have stashed in the garage.

Dan

Yes, just off Southern on Wilbur.
