Vermont Maple Syrup Producers To Hold Eleventh Annual Maple Open House Weekend

Visitors are welcome at sugarhouses all over Vermont on March 24 and 25, 2012

The Eleventh Annual Vermont Maple Open House Weekend will be held at sugarhouses throughout Vermont, March 24 and 25, 2012. The Open House Weekend is a celebration of the maple syrup season and an opportunity for the public to visit one or more “sugarhouses” throughout the state to learn about Vermont’s first agricultural crop of the year. Activities during this free event may vary at each sugarhouse. You will have the opportunity to watch maple syrup being made (weather permitting) and to sample pure Vermont maple syrup and other maple products.

Vermont is the largest U.S. producer of maple syrup. There are approximately 2000 maple producers in Vermont.

I have not been on in a while. We (and everybody else) finished yesterday due to the hot weather. The earliest previous finishing date was 3/31.

Gary, how was your yield compared to previous years?

Last year we had 6200 taps and made 2685 gallons
this year we had 8150 taps and made 2250 gallons, so about 60% of our expected yeild. I did good compared to some others. Alot of producers are 40-50%

I won a 1/2 gallon of Gary's syrup last year and we just finished up the previous 1/2 gallon tonight. So luckily I'm all set for this year. If it's like gas or coffee prices will sky rocket for the syrup.
