Sup guys, I'm a Cali transplant to Al with a quandary :grinpimp:

Purchased a 83 BJ60 from a guy in Ca who couldn't get it titled a couple years ago, drove it out here recently, tried to register it, and found that the 7523 customs form I have isn't accepted by AL DMV. They only take the 7501. Surprise!

Anyways, found out that I can backfile for a 7501 (which is a 7523 + EPA and DOT) but have to go through a broker.

Anyone know any vehicle brokers in Al that might be willing to bother with this? I called one in Mobile who had no idea what I was talking about and eventually stopped responding to my calls. I think I'd be willing to spend up to $500 if that's what it took :hhmm:

Here's a  for reading my plea

Where in Alabama? In Birmingham sometimes all you have to do is get back in line and try with a different clerk at the DMV.

As for a broker...you might send a message to owenjam on here, he is a dealer and may be able to help or may at least know someone. Red Mountain Rovers also seems to have a bunch of imports, they might be willing to give some advice or assistance.

You may have to resort to looking through some of the areas frequeted by folks from CA (ie the 70 forum) and I'm sure you can get a lead on a broker there as I would bet its common to deal with issues importing from CA to US and someone there would have a clue. I check the 70 series group a good bit and have noticed some discussions on importing. Surely this could be handled online or by whatever method where you did not have to be there physically.

Outside of that I don't know anyone in the vehicle customs biz.... I have dealt with it at work some (in a different area of "customs and duties" and what a royal pain in the @$$.

I assume you are near B'ham in which case Duffy's Garage : Home would be a good place to go. Brad should be able to help you or point you in the right direction we just built a turbo for a diesel 62 Landcruiser for him.

BHM: I'm down in Enterprise so the DMV already knows my case :-( But I did go and shoot owenjam a PM. And I'll check out RMR. Thanks!

Elbert: yeah, spent some time reading the import threads. At this point, I just need someone who's willing to do the paperwork for me, because when I called customs they said I HAD to go through a broker :-/

McDowra: Thanks, I'll check it out.
