Here's a question I feel like I should know the answer to, but I'm brand new to the Cruiser world, much less a vehicle with a carb.

When I stop at a light after rolling down the road, my truck idles around 1400 RPM. If I rev the engine a bit and tap the pedal, the idle settles down to around 800 or so.

What's going on? Is this an easy fix (new coil?), and should I be concerned at all?

Thanks.

Next time it happens, just reach down and pull up the pedal, I bet it drops down to regualr idle.

Heh heh, that problem cropped up on me just this week (I blame mud followed by hosing down the engine bay)--the linkage between your gas pedal and your carb is probably gummed up and sticking--try spraying all the linkages with carb cleaner and lubing them, that's what fixes it for me.

I tried pulling up on the gas pedal a few times before, and that didn't seem to help.

I think I found the fix tonight, though. Poking around under the hood I discovered my intake hose was all chewed up leading into the air filter. Wrapped it with duct tape as a temporary fix.

Now the truck is more quiet under power, and the idle dropped lower and smoother than it has been up to this point in my short time with the truck. I now get a consistent drop to about a 700 rpm idle, w/o tapping the gas.

Amazing how something so simple can make such a drastic difference.
