Condos suck a$$ !

Any way I can go bigger , but make it into my underground parking ?

What about air bags ? CTIS ?

I'd only be lowering to get into and out of the condo , so caster should not come into play . I'll have it set with Slee plates for the full height .

We use Goodyear airbags to raise, level and lower Foretravel motorhomes by 10".

I'm dreaming of a Slee 6" suspension , and 38's . But gosh , do I have to get out of the darned thing to deflate ? Thats too much work .. 'sides all the old gals in my building would start phoning the property manager on me , sure as sh!t .

Thats why air bags or CTIS cam to mind .. remote control would rock .

I have an outdoor parking spot 50' from the door , I'm just too much of a :princess: to use it in the winter .

Maybe in the summer though ..

Ty, my thought would be that your airbags or whatever mechanism would give you your height gain and then lowered down to minimum height to clear under the parking space. Problem with this is you'll be running around on inflated bags to clear your tires when you're out of the parking space. Keep in mind what you are trying to achieve is not ground clearance issues, but low height clearances. So the system you would want is something just for that purpose and then be back to your normal suspension height. From reading on this forum you might be able to use the same setup the LX470 has, but from what I read the height variable is only under 4". One option would be to remove your stock roof rack which should gain you about 2"....not sure if you already done this. Is the problem just clearing the entrance part of the parking space? Or is the height the same throughout the whole parking space? If it's just the entrance part then there is an idea. Now I've dealt with hydraulics in the past so I know that it forces the pistons to extend, but maybe there's a way to design something to compress the suspension just so you can clear the entrance and once you're in, release it. If this can be done, then a lifted 80 or 100 can really go anywhere; meaning evening in low parking garages.

Ali (alia176 on here) was looking at doing the airbag setup on his '96. A friend had it on his G-wagon, only on the rear though, but it went up about 7" or so, big G-wagon with 37's, full cage, etc and could get into a 7' garage with it, really slick setup IMO. I really don't think it'd be hard to throw that into an 80. Take some fab work no doubt, but it'd be slick and a bit of bling-bling too, offroad it'd be fun too to lift one side.. :D

TYLER,

Do you (still) have a roof rack on your rig? If so maybe there's never been a better time to do so. :D

And also, how much clearance do you have between the top of your roof to the lowest part of your parking garage?

Or, just suck it up, be a man that you claim (and always wanted) to be and park it outside for crying out loud! :D

How cold does it get there anyway, -10C? :D

Hi TYLER,

That would be great, the best of both worlds, I think that would be easier to achieve with hydraulic rams rather than air bags. I have seen an article in a magazine some where I can not remember, I think it was a set up developed in Australia. It involved four rams one in each corner that were capable of independent or group control. This enabled amazing articulation far greater than normal springs are capable of achieving and variable ride height at the flick of a switch. I think that the driver could select which rams were operating independent of the processor which normally controlled the set up, this enabled the vehicle to remain horizontal on extreme side slopes. Also one wheel could be contracted to allow access for changing tyres without a jack. This was all made to production standards I think and was developed to impress military purchases as well as civilian outlets and if my memory serves me was brought over to the UK to impress various 4x4 outlets here. In the magazine I think they were featured on pickups and Unimogs but Landover’s too where catered for. Being Australian I bet fittings were available for 80s as well I just can not remember any further details at the present. God luck with this. :)
