Too Tall and his bothers came over for a couple days of wheeling on Friday. We had great wether, frosty in the morning and sunny all day. Too Tall's cruiser is on 38.5 TSLs, his brothers is pretty stock with a little lift and 32" MTRs, and mines on 36" TSLs. We went to Mt Sicker (neer Duncan) which has lots of trails to play on from mild to wild. We cruised around some trails, played in the claypits (old mine tailings which are a sloppy mess when its wet) and almost rolled the little 40 a couple times. On the way out of clay pits we found a 30 or 40 foot rock water fall. It was pretty clean, but had a little water coming down it. It had 3 ledges on the way up that were perfect for a slightly streched cruiser. Figured it was a pretty good practice run for Moab, but the rock is a lot smother here. I got up first try, but Too Tall took a couple runs. Right after the water fall, there was level ground for 20 or so feet and then a nother 8 foot rock climb. Too Tall got bouncing on it, heard a couple bangs and we saw a shortened drive shaft fly out to land under the front bumper. The first bang was the 3/4" heim on the front of the track bar snapping and the second was the drive shaft twisting off. The track bar made a pretty good dent in the floor pan. After bolting in a spare drive shaft we managed to get home with out any more carnage.
Day 2 started at 8 am on the phone looking for a 3/4" hiem joint, and at 9 I fonally found one. A quick trip to town and a little wrenching and we were on the road a little after noon. We hooked up with a friend from the local club (with a willys) and headed for Mt Benson (near Nanaimo). We went in to Boomerang lake which has some nice twisty bits and holes to go through. Once there, we found some little hill climbs, one of which looked the most challenging. It had a steep rock face near the top that went up about 8 or 10 feet with the first couple feet being vertical. Being really stoked from the day before climbing the water fall, I stepped up to the plate, drove up the dirt approach, got to the rock ledge, and popped up the front wheels. I gave it a good shot of throttle, the back wheels climbed the 1 or 2 foot verticlal bit, spun too much, dropped back down and BANG. Shoulda built a track bar..... :whoops: Busted the rear pinion. Backed it down to level ground, took the carrier out, removed the pinion stub, put the carrier back in and covered the whole. Made it out in front wheel drive with a tug or 2. Nobody else even got a chance to mess up their junk. By the time I put the diff cover on, the sun was behind the hills and it was dark when we hit the pavement. I'll get some pics up. I tried to get Radd out, but couldn't track him down this weekend.
