My opinion for what its worth... Looks like a great rig. I do like the factory locker and service records. However like the add says be prepared to replace the timing belt and all associated parts while you're in there. As nice as it appears, it is a 17 year old SUV. These truck do last forever especially when maintained properly, but that just seems like a steep asking price for the year. Last month I passed on a 2001 LC with 86k miles for $15K. Assuming your budget is in the $18k range I would strongly recommend trying to find a newer year model truck. I bet you could find a +2003 model with the 5-speed tranny, stronger from diff, and a few other goodies for about the same price. It might have a few more miles, but slightly more miles should equal out to someone else having paid for the timing belt replacement. At the price they are asking I don't believe they would bargain down low enough to justify jumping on it over a newer truck. Like I said in the beginning just my opinion! Good luck in your search!

That looks like a great rig! I just went through a search of my own and have owned three now. I can tell you if that 99 would have been close to me during my search it would now be in my driveway. Rare color and crazy low miles!!!! I would give the asking price minus the $600 to $1000 timing belt job at a Toyota dealership. It should also have nearly new tires at that price.

I just got a 2002 with 62k miles and paid $17k. It was nearly full asking price at a Toyota Dealer but the history and condition were great. It will be a weekend toy for me so I am not worried about later year upgrades. I traded my 92k mile blk/tan 04 off for a nearly new LX.

Having now owned a 2002 and a new 2004, I can say the 04+ would be better for a family rig. My 02 just seems to be much more primitive in nature. I can't put my finger on it but I just remember the 04 feeling softer and more refined. In contrast my 2013 LX570 Mom-Wagon is a boat that is way TOO soft for me. Wife loves it. (She better)

If the 99 fits in your budget, jump on it. If the time-frame and budget allows, spend a few more thousand and find a 100k mile 04-07 with the 5 speed, side and curtain airbags, and more sophisticated handling systems i.e. safety. It is a big plus if it is going to have family-wagon duties.

I love the rare color and wow the mileage is crazy low.

I'd start at 15,000 cash on the spot if you can.

Sweet find none the less.

I'd be tempted for sure if it was close to me, lol...

It's worth what someone is willing to pay for a low mileage early model 100 series in an unusual color.

I personally really dislike the color, and if I were looking for a "wife-and-kid-mobile"

  • I'd be looking for a 2000+ at a minimum for the VSC.
  • Many seem to prefer 2001+ for the LATCH.
  • I'd really prefer the 2003+ for the transmission and side curtain airbags.

Thanks guys, I appreciate the input. Especially the safety features.

So if this is a decent price, why is KBB and Edmunds so far off on their price estimates? Aren't they supposed to reflect actual prices of recent sales?

Thanks,

Probably a lack of comparables since this is a unicorn '99. Hope it works out for ya!!

Yes, I think the NADA, KBB, etc use a lot of technology to get those numbers. If the robots get confused then they miss low volume units like Land Cruisers.

Don't bother looking in any *book* for values here - offer what you think it's worth. If you value super-low mileage and love the exotic color, well, get-er-done!

No way would I pay $18k for a 99. In any condition. I would buy a cherry 04 or 05 with double the miles of that one for the same money. If maintenance history is solid, mileage is one of the least important factors to me personally. I would prefer the 5-speed and the extra, more modern features of the later model years over the locker/ non-nav of the older ones. That's just my personal opinion though.

It it helps. I just sold my 99 ( pic in my avatar ) with 100,000 miles for $23,000. It was fully built, you can see equipment in my signature. A client of mine just inherited a 99 with 70,000 miles from her mom and I told her anytime she wanted $15,000 for it, I would write her a check. I now have a 98 with high miles that I building into a trail rig, I didn't have the heart to go tearing up the other one. My favorite year is 99 but if I were using it as a family hauler and not on the trails, I would go with a 2003 or newer.
