All,

I took my car to the local Lexus dealership to check the AC as the rear wasn't blowing cold air. It needed Freon and there wasn't a leak.
The bad news is that they noticed an engine coolant leak - referred to as Valley Leak - cost to fix $2,900. Called my local Toyota dealership and they quoted me $2,700.

I got the service manager to lower it to $2,550 - best i could do despite my numerous attempts.

I am a bit surprised to have such an issue considering the age of the car and it was CPO - warranty expired a year ago.

Is there anything I should watch for? How do I know the repair was done correctly? Sorry for the silly questions, I am not knowledgeable or skilled when it comes to car - best i can do is change an air filter.

Thank you

There's another thread or two around here with an explanation of the issue. Search a bit and you'll find it. In general it's not a hard repair but it's a lot of labor to get to. That amount seems a bit high to me but I could be wrong.

Woah I didn't know dealers charged that much for the valley plate reseal. I've done this job on a sequoia and it is pretty straightforward. Takes about a day to clean all the parts and reseal. Makes sure the Toyota specific sealant is used, otherwise you risk the leak coming back. If you are comfortable with wrenching and have some time, I would give it a shot.

another member in the dallas area had this same issue. He went to lexutech and paid $880.00.

Find a good indy shop. I’m a long time BMW owner, many out of warranty. The price is often half that of a dealer.
