I had a previous issue of fuel in my oil that I believe has been corrected by installing a new fuel pump but now I'm running rich. I leaned out the mixture adjustment (screw that faces the valve cover) by 1/4 turn but my newly cleaned plugs are now jet black after a 15-20 mile drive.

For those in the know I would like some confirmation or corrections as to the routing of my vacuum lines for the carb and distributor. I am trying to remedy running rich and getting very poor gas mileage...so I figured I start with the basics and work my way from there.

Motor is a desmogged '78 2F with OEM carb, 60 series dizzy and coil/ignitor. I've searched and read old threads until my eyes were crossed so figured I'd post up some pics of my vacuum hose routing to see what the experts think.

I've read a number of threads on the 60 dizzy conversion (but not all carb setups are the same); some route the smaller of the two dizzy cap vent holes for fresh clean air and some have them both capped. Which is correct/preferred.

Here are two pics; one of my carb and one of the dizzy. I can take additional pics if needed.

 for the help!!

From my experience, if you don't run vacuum through the distributor drawing fresh air from the cab, condensation will build up inside and the contacts will corrode. Run a vacuum hose from the intake on the firewall and another to the air cleaner (this provides the suction).

I need to do this on my '72 40 that has an upgraded 60 ignition. Pictures are always helpful and appreciated.

I added some captions to the pics that might help clear up what my questions are.

Thanks for the help!

Yes, one or both of the fittings on the dissy cap should at least be connected to a filtered vent of some sort. A disposable fuel filter mounted at the top of the firewall is a good start. The stock 78-newer air cleaner and VCV is best.

The dissy vac advance hose should be connected to ported vacuum on the carb base.

The fitting out the side of the carb insulator is a source of manifold vacuum.
It should be connected to the choke breaker (can on carb).

The fitting on the air horn is a port for clean air to the HIC. The HIC is gone, therefore the port should be capped.

The fittings on the carb base toward the VC are probably ported vacuum. The one that is angled forward and visible in the photo is definitely ported vac. It should be connected to dissy vac advancer.

Yes Jim this helps a ton!!

Considering that my sh!t isn't connected they way it should be, could it contribute to me running so rich?

I'm going to redo my connections and post up a pic just to make sure I follow what you are saying correctly.

Made changes and here are the updated pics.

Does this look correct now Jim C (or others in the know)? Going to run the truck in the morning and see how it does.

Also, in the last pic I believe that I'm missing a c-clip on this part. Where is the best place to source one?

Thanks again for the help MUD!!!
