got my vac guage , to put inside my truck. Rumor has it to hook up the hose to a "tee" connection at the manifold.
which connection in this pic is the right one?

anyone?

Where you want to hook it up is not pictured on the SOR diagram. Look for your brake booster hose going into the manifold. There is a funny looking tree thing that has the large port for the brake booster and a smaller fitting that should go tot he a/c idle up on the carb. Install a tee fitting onto the smaller hose and then route your new hose to the gauge.

do you have anysort of pic of this?
i put "brake booster: hose into SOR's find it screen, and i cant id a damn thing.
i know this sounds like a whine, but i cant figure it out.
thanks

You don't need SOR for this one. Just open your hood, find the booster and follow the fat hose to the manifold. You'll see the funky T fitting with heat fin disks welded to it.

thanks wag, chitown... im concerned with the tee fitting that came with the vac guage. any quess what the id is on the brake booster hose, so i can get a proper tee fitting at the local pep boys?

Not to jump in on this thread, but I'm new to cruisers. I have a leaking exhaust somewhere and it seems like the manifold gasket. By looking at that pic from SOR, it looks like the exhaust manifold is a three piece unit. When I take off the exhaust manifold to replace the gasket, do I also need to replace # 15 and # 16 on that diagram?

I did the seafoam trick and so much white smoke came out from the rear area of the manifold that I couldn't tell if it was the manifold gasket or the gasket where the manifold hooks up to the exhaust pipe. But after seeing that diagram, it could have also been around where the exhaust manifold pieces all tie together. When I take off the manifold are the three pieces going to seperate as I pull it apart?

Thanks for any help guys

Where the bigger vacuum hose goes into the mainifold there is another small line that plugs into there too. The small lines runs to a switching valve on the fender. The small hose would be a good place to add some hose and put in a T there. The smaller T seems like it would be easier to find. Just cut a small piece of vacuum tubing off that small line and take it to the store with you.

Goodluck

Have you tried tightening the bolts that secure the manifold to the head? I would replace any gaskets you can while you have it apart.

I would check the EGR pipe that comes out of the bottom of the Exhaust manifold at the rear. They are known to rust off and leak. I put a stainless one from SOR on my 60.

10-4 thanks for the avice guys. I already ordered the manifold gasket and the gasket on the manifold to pipe. I'll probobly Just go through an replace all I can while I'm in the process of pulling all the crap off.

So I'll replace the manifold gasket
the manifold to exhaust pipe
The valve cover gasket
Check the egr pipe
Replace the ones on the manifold itself that I saw in the diagram

What else guys. I'm gonna have all this taken apart and only wanna do this once.

Not trying to hi-jack the thread, just saw that diagram and didn't know it was a three piece manifold

Thanks

The three piece manifold is basically a compression fit. Once they are inserted into the main body of the manifold, they will stay put when you tighten things down. If yours are so loose that they dont stay in, you need to replace the gaskets (if possible, I don't recall if you can), or the entire exhaust manifold. I would also replace the small gasket that goes from the EGR cooler pipe to the manifold as there are always tons of leaks from there.

I guess I'll just tear this thing apart and see what I need and make a punch list. Everytime I read this forum I see I need more parts than the last time I read it. I just want to o this one time, So I'll be replacing everything I need to when It comes apart.

Is there any tricks or things I should know about taking all the stuff of to get to the manifold before I get started?

Thanks For all the help guys. Looking forward to getting my hands dirty and seeing whats all there.
My wife has already started gripping, because she says I spend more time getting this landcruiser perfect to my standards and not giving her enough attention. She just dosen't understand that this is going to be my daily driver and I want it right before I sell my last daily driver.

help! i've been hi-jacked!!!!
only kidding.
i got my answer.thanks guys.
