I've tried searching the forum and internet but could not find anything on this question. I've seen the U.S. 200 series referred to as both the UZJ200 and the URJ200. What is the difference? Is there a list of model "codes" for the various US vs. International builds of the Land Cruiser? When shopping for parts and mods, the fitment can be vague so I am trying to learn the nuances as much as possible. Thank you.

There's the GRJ200 as well.

And URJ202 which is the LX570 I believe.

EDIT: now I see reference to URJ201 and URJ202 so not sure the difference.

What is the 200 designation with the 4.0l V6?

According to PartSouq:

Land Cruiser:
GRJ200L - 4.0 1GR-FE
VDJ200L - 4.5 1VD-FTV
URJ202L - 4.6 1UR-FE
UZJ200L - 4.7 2UZ-FE
URJ200L - 5.7 3UR-FE

LX570:
VDJ201L - 4.5 1VD-FTV
URJ202R - 4.6 1UR-FE
URJ201L - 5.7 3UR-FE

Am I right to understand that the 200s with 4.X engines were only sold outside of the US? If so, is the chassis, body, hood, grill dimensions essentially the same across all 200s whether they are the 5.7 or 4.X models? Asking because I am looking at a grill for a 200 but the only photo I’ve seen is the grill on a foreign 200 with different bumpers from the factory.

As I understand the system, this is how all Land Cruisers are designated.

Example: VDJ-79 has a 1VD-FTV engine, an FZJ-80 has a 1FZ-FE engine, while an HDJ-81 has the 1HD-T or some derivative thereof. I was not aware of the two variants of the UR engine being offered in the 200-Series, that both were designated as URJ-200 or that the 200-Series was offered in some markets with the 'old' 2UZ power plant. As Americans are power-hungry fools, generally, I presume the lower power engines were only offered in Oz, EMEA and/or South/Central America.

Is there a similar 'decoder' for extended model names, e.g.: VDJ-200L-GDMNZ or URJ200L-GNZVKA?

The LC heritage museum site has some good info, but I don't see all the options listed.

From filtering the 200-series designations on the Part-Souq site, I come up with by digit (after dash):

1st digit (?):
G=?
K=?
not sure what this is but the K seems to only be used with the VDJ200

2nd digit (seats):
M=5 seater
C=5 seater
N=8 seater
P=9 seater
D=9 seater

3rd digit (transmission):
A=5 spd auto
T=6 spd auto
Z=8 spd auto
M=5 spd manual

4th digit (grade):
N=GX
A=GXR
E=VX
V=VXR
R=Standard

5th digit (engine type):
K=DOHC EFI
Z=Turbo? (seems to only apply to the VDJ200)
Maybe K is petrol and Z is diesel?

6th digit (market):
Blank=general
V=GCC
Q=Aus
C=Switzerland/Sweeden?
W=Europe?

Wow, thanks for that... using this as a guide, what you have posted makes sense:

Toyota of Gibraltar offers a LHD VDJ200L-GNMAZ, with a split rear lift gate and a manual transmission. In Oz, the GX comes with barn doors, while other markets get the lifgate/hatch rear. In GNMAZ trim, the vehicle is configured for eight people, with side folding rear seats and a tumble middle row. Interior is cloth and while trim is not bare bones, many soccer mom features are simply absent. The GDMNZ is even more bare bones with steel wheels, plain black side view mirrors and barn doors. Both models are diesel (1VD) and have manual transmission. Neither were offered in the US as they are basically, 'UN-spec' rigs.

Now that the 300-Series has been released and the world has forgotten how to drive a standard transmission-equipped vehicle or backup without a camera and 14 sensors helping them, these base/bare bones models are likely long gone.
