Hello Cruisers,
I'm Tseveen from Mongolia. I got 1999 Land Cruiser 100. It is very good off road car i ever had. I've travelled with my car vast steppe in Mongolia.
But recently i got one problem with it. I searched in this forum but i didn't found any thread about it.
Problem is engine just suddenly turn off. No matter how fast that i'm going on the road or just waiting a light at the crossroad it dies. So i put to PARKING and turn the keys and it works. But turn off again frequently. Sometimes it wont start like 1-2 hours and even need to wait like a whole day. I changed fuel pump computer and some fuel filter in the right next to the engine in front.
So do you guys had any similar problems? Any idea is helpful. Thank you.

You could try replacing the EFI fuse in the engine bay. Fuse might not look blown but cannot carry enough current after a while.

In the engine bay fusebox there are relays that could cause that behavior.

Do you have the 2UZ V8 engine? Have you checked all vacuum hoses? Have you made sure throttle body is clean and not obstructed? Air filter clean?

You need to start with the basics. The above things I mentioned apply to any engine. Once you have ruled out the most likely of causes we can help diagnose further. As mentioned above, if it is the 2UZ engine, the efi fuse can be an issue.

I had a 1999 Honda Accord that had an issue similar to this. It was the EFI main relay. It was an immobilizer for the theft prevention system. A solder joint on the circuit board had started to arc causing the solder to vaporize (I figure this is what happened). As a result, the car would intermittently just cut out and would take a minute to a few hours to be able to restart. Took hours of searching to figure that one out. Do the Land Cruisers have anything like this?

Does the engine ALWAYS crank after this happens? I ask because you are diagnosing a fuel and not electrical issue.

Sounds very much like an intermittent 'electrical' issue.

I'd be looking at relays, connections and wiring associated with the ignition system (EFI or immobilizer).

If it happens frequently, I would lift the rear seat, expose the pump and connect a test light or multimeter in place. Drive around with someone in the back and if it cuts out get them to check a few things.

Check If it is losing the feed or ground at the pump.
Check to see if the pump stays running.

If it is losing a feed then check connections and relays under the hood.
If the pump stops running with a feed still there, swap in a new pump.
If the pump stays running, then remove pump and look for water in fuel.

Most other things like crank sensor should bring up a fault code but don’t count them out.
Check basics like battery connections and ground points.

Hello Cruisers,
I've been out of town to countryside for some video shooting project and came back last Monday. So i check the everything you guys told me and i found out problem was a fuel pump. So i changed the fuel pump and ride with my car all day around the city and it didn't turn off. Kind a problem is solved i guess.

Last summer i spent like 2 months in very remote countryside in Mongolia. And i using "countryside fuel" to my car and also guessing their gas quality is not good. So it caused this kind of problem. Next week i' going to car service for cleaning my fuel tank. I will post some photos after that.

Thank you everybody for your support!!!

First picture is old fuel pump filter. So it's very very dirty.
Second picture is new fuel pump that i purchased
Third picture is old pump

Good job. Glad you got it figured out.

Thanks for following up on the issue and letting us know it is fixed.
