I'm looking at making a trip up your way in August and want to hit some trails. A google search turned up Uwharrie. Can my stock and locked 80 with revos handle the trails there? Any tips for this Cajun on the area? I will be taking the :princess: along for a week vacation and don't want her pissed if I break something.

thanks. Will probably be doing a day trip to Uwharrie either from Asheville or from the coast sometime during the week before August 16. My old college buddy is getting married in Knoxville and we decided to make a road trip out of it. No hills down here--just mud.

Make sure you don't have running boards on...and if you're fond of any of the plastic on the outside of the vehicle, unbolt it before you hit the trails. Other than a few scars, your 80 on revos will do almost everything there open or just rear locked. Kodak rock and Daniel will be pieces of cake double locked.

Aug 16th is my Bday. Sounds like you guys are heading down on a weekday. if could get off of work that day i'll add my cruiser to the mix. you are far more capable than i, and i still manage most of the stuff there.

Running boards will stay--I want to remove them, but the ole lady will not let me. Maybe they'll just have to go by default.

August 10 is my BD--that's why I will get to wheel on vacation! When I plot out my trip, I'll give you a shout.

You can easily run all of the trails @ URE in your vehicle as it is, although you may "bend" a running board. No need for any special prep. Uwharrie from the coast is a bit of hike, may be more than a day trip. Post up when your plans are firmed up, hopefully some of us can meet you there.

Also there are some very nice trails and drives in the mountains (and within easy proximity of Asheville). The Pisgah and Nantahala forests are out there, Blue Ridge Parkway, Linville Gorge, etc etc.

agreed: Uwharrie from the coast is more than a day trip and from asheville is still 2 hrs each way. Im an hour away (80) and you can run down for 3-4 trails and back; or if you hit it going from knoxville to beach you could make it a stopover and camp there (w/ showers). Youll be fine there and not garunteed any scars and most likely make it through w/out a scrape. Last month we snuck two stock 80s through daniel and rocky mtn loop and dutch john in a quick afternoon. Definately keep us posted as im sure someone could meet you down there. here are a few pics for inspiration.

Wow! August 10th is my birthday too. :D

Plan change to Tellico

OK guys, looks like my plans will put me nearer to Tellico on August 13 and 14, not sure which day is for wheeling. I think I can talk the wife into staying near Murphey or Lake Hiawasee instead of Asheville. This is the middle of the week and I am concerned that I will be the only one out there. Got any suggestions on Tellico so that I can be in Knoxville safely on Friday?

I say bump up the schedule if possible and join our southern brethren at tellico for the Over The Mountain Tour, which will be attended by the Toyota Trail Teams and Woody, creator of IH8MUD. A garunteed good time for all, very family appropriate w/ lots of good food, folks and cruisers. Aug 7-10. Plus you and the wifey could hop in a brand new FJC and wheel a bit of the easts finest! cheers

Jason's advice is spot on. If there is any way you could pull that off, you'd have weekend trail guides / local knowledge at your disposal, not to mention the great camaraderie, food and good times all around.

Ok, In preparation of my Tellico ride, I googled some pictures and am leery about some of the trails and getting stuck out there on a weekday. A weekday ride is my only option. Which trails are easiest to where:

1. I get to some mild wheeling,
2. I get to show the wife some scenery,
3. I don't get stranded, broke down and nagged for the rest of my life?

What are the chances I run into a heep that will ride along with me? I hate to opt for some lame fire roads when I'll be so close to Tellico...
