Build thread if you’d like to see 30+ pages of mods and chit chat: Builds - Ikarus' LX470 Offroad Build and BS

This LX has been amazing. I’ve owned it since 2016/150K miles and have taken it all over Utah. I wouldn’t hesitate to take it on a trip down to Moab tomorrow - in fact, just got back from southern Utah last week.

I am going to try to be thorough but let me know if you have any questions.

Replaced in the last 4 years/since 150K miles:
  • Windshield with brand new trim and proper rivet procedure
  • JDM clear corner markers + relocated LX turn signals
  • Reupholstered steering wheel
  • Brake calipers, pads, rotors
  • Spark plugs
  • Fuel filter
  • O2 sensors
  • Valve cover gasket
  • Radiator, shroud, fan and hoses
  • Timing belt, water pump
  • Heater Ts
  • Wheel bearings
  • New battery
  • New belt tensioner, idler pulley, fan pulley bracket, fan clutch and serpentine belt
  • New steering rack and power steering pump
  • Lower ball joints
  • A/C Lines

The bad:
  • This isn’t a show car, it’s been used off road for 4 years
  • Rear AC doesn't work. Front AC works great.
  • Rusty hole in driver’s side rear quarter panel. See more here: Builds - Ikarus' LX470 Offroad Build and BS
    • I put off repairing this but I meant to buy a welder and get around to it this year. It hasn’t been growing in size but does let some dust into the trunk on dusty/silt trails. Otherwise it’s been out of sight, out of mind. It’s a fairly typical problem area - solution can be seen here: Rocker Rust Repair Options?

Cosmetic stuff:
  • Slightly dented passenger fender and small rust spot from previous owner’s fender bender
  • Some surface rust underneath, coated with POR-15 in November 2017. Pictures available in my build thread here: Builds - Ikarus' LX470 Offroad Build and BS
    • On the current pictures, it’s kind of hard to tell between southern Utah red dirt and rust. The POR15 seems to be doing ok. I’ve only broken two bolts the entire time I’ve worked on this LX - one in the spare tire carrier and one in the AHC system.
  • Slee sliders designed for Land Cruiser contact the LX body cladding. After a hit in Moab it popped out a little. The sliders have a few scrapes
  • Cracked front headlight trim
  • Cracked/small hole in driver’s seat leather
  • Some paint damage around gas cap opening from high altitude venting
  • Fender paint is a little chipped from the 35s. I rolled the fenders so there’s little contact now.
  • Peeling paint on body cladding
  • Slee bumper lost one stainless slide plate

Thanks man! I'm going to have to get another cruiser just because I like this forum so much more than any other

GLWS, really enjoyed following your build and learned a lot!

Let me know if you want to sell those OE wheels separately.

You WILL get another Cruiser.

First you'll notice this empty place in your soul, and when you figure out why, you'll get onto this forum and feel like a dirty has-been.

Suddenly you'll regret getting the Tundra "because it's bigger and more sensible" and find yourself searching desperately for your old truck in the FOR SALE section.

Ask me how I know.

Great truck, good luck on the journey. We'll make sure to look for you in the "OTHER VEHICLE" section.

Haha dude I know. How did you know I briefly looked at Tundras??

But yes, at the moment I'm considering a 200 but what I really want to do is start fresh with another 100 and do a 105 clone with a SAS. We'll see.

Now that's a proper for sale ad. I can tell how much you love this thing based on the effort you put into this ad. Best of luck with your future rig/plans man. I REALLY enjoyed following your build and chit chatting with you over the years. You easily have one of the best builds I've seen here!

Dude.

I just saw this classified

and I want you to know that I’m sorry.

I had no idea that insulting your stereo would lead to you selling your truck.

just take down the listing.

we can fix this.

Ha! I'm so offended

Thanks dude. I appreciate that. I really do like cruisers a lot - I'd say there's a 50% chance I'll just buy another one.
