Just wanting to check, is it acceptable to use Gasket Sealant (eg Permatex black) on the oil filter housing (that bolts to the block)?

I have a housing I needed to get swapped on my 2H and couldn't get a gasket in time, but if it's a bad idea, I can remove it and buy the proper gasket.

But I also have to swap an oil cooler on my 5L Hilux, however it's a much larger housing, and I don't really have much choice in this situation.

I understand metal shavings are terrible to go through the oil, however small pieces of gasket goo, worst case, if they did...?

I used the grey silicone to install my oil filter housing, no problems. I didn't use a lot of it, just put some on the housing and smeared it around with my finger.
